How Former Ole Miss Rebels Fared During NFL Preseason

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss Rebels saw a staggering 20 players get drafted or signed into the 2024 NFL Draft, and as the season quickly approaches, here is a look into some of the Rebels’ record-setting draft class and how they’re faring in the pros.

Jaxson Dart

Jaxson Dart dazzled in his three years at Ole Miss, setting a load of records as his tenure as QB1 which in turn led him to be selected in the first round by the New York Giants. He became the third Ole Miss quarterback to be taken in the first round of the — and the first to not have the last name Manning (Archie 1971, Eli 2004).

Dart entered camp behind veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston; however, Dart has continued to excel quickly and is now slotted as the Giants’ second-string quarterback.

Dart has played in all of Big Blue’s preseason games so far, tallying 372 passing yards for 4 total touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing) with an efficient 68.1 completion percentage.

He has energized New York fans and given them hope for their team’s future.

Princely Umanmielen

Princely Umanmielen played one year with the Rebels, but in his short tenure in Oxford the defensive lineman dominated, becoming a third round selection to the Carolina Panthers.

Since the draft back in April, Umanmielen has continued to impress the Panthers staff and teammates. He capped off the preseason with 6 solo tackles and 4 assisted, notching 10 total tackles in 3 games.

His performance has landed him as a second string rotational guy on the current Panthers depth chart, and the Ole Miss product is expected by many to play a key rotational role in 2025. There’s little doubt he will grab a starting spot eventually, but the Panthers will take things step by step.

Tre Harris

Tre Harris was a star in his two seasons as a Rebel, and despite battling a lingering injury for the majority of his senior season, Harris compiled a 1,030-yard campaign his final season and became a second-round selection of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Harris is looking to add to a strong young wide receiver room in LA. During preseason, Harris only played in game; however, he totaled six receptions for 85 yards, falling just a yard short of his first touchdown on a beautiful toe-tap grab as seen below.

Harris is currently slotted behind Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Keenan Allen; however, with a scary injury to Johnston Harris, he may be seeing more time than expected early on.

Trey Amos

Trey Amos is yet another Lane Kiffin transfer success as Amos’ one year in Oxford, and he became an early second round selection by the Washington Commanders.

Amos has put on a strong camp and preseason, playing in games combining for 2 tackles while playing lock-down defense.

When Amos wasn’t in Monday’s game against Cincinnati, fans feared he was injured. While he was hurt, he should be fine. Head coach Dan Quinn said in his postgame press conference that Amos had experienced tightness in his hamstring after Saturday’s practice. The team worked Amos out on the field, and while the rookie said he was good to go, he still felt some discomfort, so the team chose to play it safe.

Amos has played well in preseason, and he’s likely earned the third starting cornerback job alongside Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainristil.

Jared Ivey

Jared Ivey spent three seasons with Ole Miss, making an instant impact while progressing throughout his career in Oxford. Ivey was recognized as one of the better defensive linemen in the draft class, but he fell undrafted before finally being picked up by the Seattle Seahawks.

You can bet the Seahawks are glad they got the Georgia native.

Ivey has proven his worth during the preseason as in 2 games he has compiled 15 total tackles (5 solo) recording his first sack contribution as well pushing his cause to make the Hawks final roster.

Ulysses Bentley IV

Ulysses Bentley IV spent his final three years of college in Oxford with a productive stay that may not have resulted in a draft selection; however, he garnered interest from the Indianapolis Colts, signing with them as a UDFA.

Bentley has notched a strong preseason totaling 94 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 attempts, and he is the one of three Colts to record a rushing touchdown and the only one with multiple.

Bentley’s strong preseason could land him a spot on the Colts’ final 53-man roster for the beginning of the regular season.

JJ Pegues

Former Ole Miss defensive lineman JJ Pegues concluded his Ole Miss career as a versatile weapon on both defense and offense across 38 games played and 23 starts for the Rebels.

Defensively for Ole Miss, he accounted for 110 total tackles (51 solo), 26.5 tackles for loss (115 yards), 10.0 sacks (68 yards), nine QB hurries, seven pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Offensively, rushed 26 times for 86 yards and seven touchdowns and caught one pass for one yard and one touchdown

These stats earned him a 2025 NFL Draft sixth-round selection by the Las Vegas Raiders, and so far he has answered the call.

In preseason, Pegues had a handful of quality reps as a run defender against the Seattle Seahawks and recorded four pressures as a pass-rusher versus the San Francisco 49ers, tied for the second-most among interior defenders according to Pro Football Focus. Additionally, the Ole Miss product continued to stand out against the run last weekend.

His performance has likely secured his spot on Las Vegas’ 53-man roster and also should help him gain some traction on the team’s depth chart.
