Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart signs rookie contract with New York Giants

OXFORD, Miss. — The New York Giants have officially ushered in a new era at quarterback, last Friday signing former Ole Miss standout Jaxson Dart to a four-year, fully guaranteed rookie contract.

Dart’s contract, slotted by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, is a fully guaranteed four-year, $16.977 million deal. The contract includes a pro-rated signing bonus of $8.987 million. Dart’s 2025 cap numbers will be $3.086 million.

Selected 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants traded up to secure Dart, sending second- and third-round picks in 2025 and a third-rounder in 2026 to the Houston Texans. This aggressive move underscores the franchise’s belief in Dart’s potential to become their quarterback of the future.

Collegiate Career Highlights

Dart’s collegiate journey began at USC, but it was at Ole Miss where he truly flourished. In his final season, he threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns and led the Rebels to a Gator Bowl victory.

In three years as the signal caller for the Rebels, Dart became the all-time leading passer in program history with 10,617 yards, completing 65.7% of his passes. The former Rebel also threw for 72 touchdown, 22 interceptions, and has the most wins as an Ole Miss quarterback with 29. Dart earned First-team All-SEC in 2024 and led the Rebels to a 10-3 record.

Dart’s rise under head coach Lane Kiffin was marked by steady improvement and a firm grasp of a complex offensive scheme that showcased his arm strength, mobility and decision-making. NFL scouts praised his football IQ and physical tools. Dart matured into a reliable leader and leaves Ole Miss with quite a legacy.

Dart’s performance not only showcased his arm strength and accuracy but also his leadership qualities, earning him the Conerly Trophy in 2024, awarded to Mississippi’s top college football player.

Transition to the NFL

Joining a quarterback room that includes veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, Dart is expected to spend his rookie season developing under their mentorship. Head coach Brian Daboll has expressed enthusiasm about Dart’s potential, often seen providing hands-on guidance during practice sessions.

Early impressions from rookie minicamp and organized team activities have been positive, with Dart displaying a strong arm and mobility. His charismatic presence has also been noted, with teammates responding well to his leadership on and off the field.

Looking Ahead

While the plan is for Dart to learn and adapt during his first year, circumstances could accelerate his debut. The Giants face one of the toughest schedules in the league, and performance issues or injuries could open the door for Dart to see playing time sooner than anticipated. As the Giants navigate the 2025 season, all eyes will be on Dart’s development, with the hope that he can eventually lead the team to sustained success.
