Mike Bianco gives injury update, insight into opponents heading into Oxford Regional: ‘It’s special to play at home in the postseason’

OXFORD, Miss. – Postseason baseball is on its way back to Oxford for the first time since 2021, with Ole Miss earning the No. 10 national seed following an impressive week at the SEC tournament. When speaking with media earlier today, head coach Mike Bianco acknowledged the importance of returning playoff baseball back to Swayze Field.
“It’s one of our goals, not just to make it to a regional but to host it… it’s a great reward for the players and our great fans. It’s special to play at home in the postseason.“

In the process of hosting his 11th regional and his first in four seasons, Bianco discussed the overwhelming veteran experience on this team, led by a tandem of pitchers who were all on the 2022 national championship team.
“We thought it was a big get when we knew we were going to get Hunter Elliott, Riley Maddox, and Mason Nichols back, three guys who played on the national championship team, along with Connor Spencer. When you get three weekend starters back and a closer, that’s a great start.“

Playing at Swayze this weekend will be Murray State, Western Kentucky, and Georgia Tech, three programs who’ve had incredible 2025 seasons. Despite being at home, Bianco spoke in detail about the challenges Ole Miss will be presented with from each team.
“All of these teams statistically do everything well, and they’ve all had great years, so I don’t know if there’s a four seed that has that many wins. I’m sure there’s not a three seed that has as many wins as Western Kentucky with 46, and then of course the ACC champs, so it’s quite a field coming to Oxford.“

Lastly, Mike provided insight into the injury status of Ryan Moerman and Mason Nichols, two crucial starting pieces to the roster who both appear to be recovering rather quickly.
“I would be surprised if they all weren’t ready to go this weekend.”

Ole Miss will face Murray State in their first game this Friday at 7 pm central time. Until then, be sure to stay tuned with The Rebel Walk.
