Washington Selects Ole Miss Defensive Back Trey Amos in Second Round of 2025 NFL Draft

GREEN Bay, Wis. – In the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders have selected former Ole Miss defensive back, Trey Amos.
This promising cornerback’s blend of physicality and versatility has reshaped expectations as teams assess the shifting tides of defensive schemes — so it’s no surprise he went in the second round.

Trey Amos is a suffocating presence at CB.
Allowed a 54.5 passer rating in 2024, including a 10 PBUs and 3 picks. He DOMINATES in press-zone looks and is also shutdown in man.

Collegiate Career
Before Amos became a breakout star for the Rebels, he spent three seasons with Louisiana and one with Alabama.
He played in 34 total games across three seasons for the Ragin’ Cajuns where he notched 59 total tackles, 2.5 TFL, 14 pass breakups, one forced fumble, one INT and one blocked kick. In 2022, he recorded a career-high 35 tackles across 11 games played that season.
In 2023, he played in all 14 games for the Crimson Tide, starting one. He tallied 12 tackles, five pass breakups and a half TFL. After his time there, he transferred to Ole Miss and the rest, as they say, is history, with Amos becoming one of the top defenders for the Rebels and defensive coordinator Pete Golding.
For his performance, he earned an invite to the NFL Combine after being named All-America second team (Sporting News, CFN), All-America honorable mention (CBS Sports, Phil Steele), All-SEC first team (Coaches, CFN) and All-SEC second team (Phil Steele).
At Ole Miss he started all 13 games at cornerback and helped anchor one of the best defenses in Rebel history. He finished fifth on the team with 50 total tackles, tied for team lead with three interceptions, led the team with 13 pass breakups (most by a Rebel since 2015), and added 3.5 TFL and one forced fumble.
He finished as SEC leader in both total passes defended (16) and passes defended per game (1.23), which respectively ranked tied for third and fifth nationally. He also ranked second in the SEC and tied for seventh nationally in total pass breakups (13).
NFL Potential
At the NFL Combine, Amos ran a blazing fast, official 4.43-second 40-yard dash. NFL GMs are always looking for a lockdown corner — with many teams not having any. Trey has good size at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, and known for both his length and his aggressive style, he has received a lot attention as one of the premier zone cornerback prospects. Throughout the pre-draft process, analysts and experts noted that his unique skill set makes him appealing for teams seeking a player who is capable of adapting easily between man and zone coverage.
“I’m a box of all traits,” Amos said prior to the draft. His dedication to playing both inside and outside lockups positions him as a candidate who could not only bridge gaps in coverage but also invigorate the defensive line’s physical presence.
