Persy Llamas Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – (Release) Following another big offensive week, Ole Miss softball freshman Persy Llamas has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, as the conference announced on Tuesday.
Llamas joins Mackenzie Pickens as winners of the award this season and takes home the first honor of her career. Llamas also joins Pickens, Aliyah Binford and Miali Guachino as SEC weekly award winners of any kind this season.
The Eastvale, Calif., native continued her torrid pace in her debut campaign, hitting .500 over a series win over Missouri. Llamas also delivered one of the biggest at-bats of the weekend, hitting a go-ahead, solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to propel the Rebels past Missouri in game two. Llamas also added a walk and hit-by-pitch, successfully reaching in six of 10 plate appearances over the weekend.
The freshman has quickly developed into a clutch and dependable hitter, who now has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time in her nine-game SEC career. Llamas is currently hitting .378 with five home runs, six doubles and 35 RBI over 35 games, while adding 14 walks and striking out just twice in 98 at-bats.
Llamas and the Rebels are back in action on Friday, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to open a three-game series against No. 6 South Carolina. The Rebels and Gamecocks will open the series at 5 p.m. CT.
