Ole Miss Baseball Moves up Nine Spots in Baseball America Rankings; Remains Same in D1Baseball’s Top 25

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball had a strong showing last week, beating Mississippi State in the Governor’s Cup in Pearl and taking the series over then-No. 9 Vanderbilt with wins Friday and Saturday.

The week before, the Rebels had gone 1-3 and were in need of a bounce-back week — which they certainly produced.

For their efforts, they moved up dramatically in one poll, yet stayed the same in another.

Baseball America’s rankings were released Monday and they seemed to take notice of the performance, moving Ole Miss (31-13, 12-9 SEC) up nine spots, from No. 22 to No. 13.

Here’s what Baseball America had to say about the Diamond Rebs:

“Ole Miss bounced back from last weekend’s series loss at South Carolina with an impressive 3-1 week that included a rivalry win over Mississippi State and a series victory over then-No. 8 Vanderbilt. In Tuesday’s midweek game, the Rebels erased a two-run, ninth inning deficit thanks to an Austin Fawley two-run home run before Will Furniss came through with a walk-off single in the 10th inning. It was a well-rounded effort on both sides of the baseball this weekend for the Rebs who saw four different players hit a home run, but the biggest story was their starting pitching. Hunter Elliott set the tone of Friday and allowed one run on just two hits, while on Saturday Riley Maddox allowed only one run across seven stellar innings. A difficult week awaits Ole Miss who has a tricky midweek matchup against Austin Peay and a tough series at No. 21 Oklahoma.”

D1Baseball, however, didn’t agree, keeping the Rebels at No. 23, the same as the week before, despite going 3-1, including the Top 10 series win over the Commodores.

The USA Today Coaches Poll has Ole Miss sitting in the No. 18 spot, and their RPI is currently also 18.
