Mississippi State Star Denim DeShields Transfers to Ole Miss, Joins Loaded Portal Class Under Coach Yo

OXFORD, Miss. — Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and Ole Miss have landed their second transfer portal star of the period from Mississippi State as talented guard Denim DeShields announced her commit Monday. This marks the eighth commit of the portal period for Coach Yo and the Rebels.

She will have one year of eligibility remaining.

DeShields joins former State standout Debreasha Powe who announced her commit to the Rebels last week.

The 5-foot-5 DeShields made a huge impact on the Bulldogs’ team, starting in all 34 games played in the 2024-25 season.

She averaged 27.1 minutes a game last season, scoring 5.7 points, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game.

Prior to her time in Starkville, DeShields played for two seasons at UAB, where she was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team her first season after starting in 30 of 31 games. That season, she recorded 13.0 points, 4.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds in an average of 30 minutes a night.

In her second season with the Blazers, she tallied an average of 13.4 points per game and 5.3 assists, the latter leading the AAC.

DeShields joins a very strong portal class at Ole Miss that also features Desrae Kyles (Central Michigan), Cotie McMahon (Ohio State), Latasha Lattimore (Virginia), Jayla Murray (Wichita State), Kaitlin Peterson (Central Florida), Debreasha Powe (Mississippi State) and Tianna Thompson (Georgia Tech).
