Former Georgia Tech guard Tianna Thompson commits to Coach Yo and the Rebels

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has garnered yet another big-time commitment, this one coming from guard Tianna Thompson, a Georgia Tech transfer, as announced this week.
We spoke with the talented transfer about her pledge to the Rebels.
“I decided to choose Ole Miss and Coach Yo because I wanted to be a part of her mission of continuing to build the Ole Miss women’s basketball program. The goals she has for the program align very closely with the goals I have for myself, and I would love to be a part of the process.“

Thompson, a former Top-100 recruit who just completed her freshman season with the Yellow Jackets in 2024-25, is now headed to Oxford. The 5-foot-10, Mableton, Georgia native will have three years of eligibility remaining.
As a freshman, Thompson appeared in 21 games and recently scored a career-high 19 points against Florida State. In that game, she went 8-of-11 from the field and made three three-pointers. She played seven minutes against Richmond in Georgia Tech’s NCAA Tournament first round game.
Many of Coach Yo’s current and former players have told us that one of the reasons they commit to her and the Rebels program is they believe the coach when she says she will help them reach their goals and and become the player they want to be — with a lot of hard work.
That is important to Thompson also.
“My basketball goals are to allow the game to take me as far as it can by making sure I take advantage of every opportunity it gives me. I feel like Coach Yo is going to push me to do just that while also pushing me to become a better person on and off of the court.“

A former four-star, Thompson was the top-ranked recruit in the state of Georgia where she played basketball for The Galloway School. She helped her team to a 2023 state runner-up finish and was named Region 6B Class A-D1 Region Player of the Year. Additionally, she was named the Metro Atlanta Player of the Year and was an ESPN Top 100-ranked recruit.
And can she score? The answer would be a resounding ‘yes.’ Thompson stands as the first female player in her high school basketball program’s history to reach 2,000-career points.
Thompson’s father, Rich Thompson, ran track and field for the Yellow Jackets and was an All-American and Olympic Trials finalist. He was also inducted into the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
We asked Tianna for her early impressions of Oxford and Ole Miss.
“From what I’ve seen so far, Oxford and Ole Miss seem like a tight knit community of support. Because of the college town atmosphere, I am excited to get to know the people there and grow personal connections with potential fans who will support us as well.“
