Butler transfer Augusto Cassia commits to Chris Beard, Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – As he continues to pursue new transfer prospects, men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard received his fourth portal commitment today, this one from Augusto Cassia.
The former Butler forward grew up in Salvador, Brazil, where he was surrounded by the game of basketball. Prior to college, he trained at the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia, bringing past experience from his time at NBA Academy Latin America in Mexico, the same location where Eduardo Klafke trained.

Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 220 pounds, Cassia showed flashes of his potential at Butler, beginning in his freshman year during the 2023-24 season. The forward appeared in 15 games, 13 of them occurring in Big East play.
Moving into his second year, Cassia greatly improved, averaging 5.1 points and securing 3.1 rebounds per game. In his second-to-last game before suffering a season-ending knee injury, Augusto scored 11 points while snagging 3 rebounds against the NCAA tournament runner-ups, Houston.
With several years of eligibility, expect Cassia to become a player who Chris Beard strongly relies upon over the next couple of years in Oxford.
