SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’re an Ole Miss fan or you’re from Mississippi, the phrase, ‘Come to the ‘Sip’ is something you probably hear fairly frequently — whether it’s a Rebel coach using it to suggest prospects should check out the university and its athletics, a hashtag in a post on X, or a fan celebrating the school’s success and proudly proclaiming it.
And if you’re a player for Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, you likely have very specific reasons for why you are in Oxford.
At Thursday’s Ole Miss media opportunity in Spokane, players Madison Scott and Kennedy Todd-Williams met with the press to talk about the upcoming game vs. No. 1 UCLA later tonight — and how the team arrived at what will be the Rebels’ second Sweet 16 game in the last three seasons.

Scott and Todd-Williams each bring a unique perspective to their reasons for being at Ole Miss. Scott, the first McDonald’s All-American in school history, has been at Ole Miss her entire career. Todd-Williams is a transfer from North Carolina who is in her second and final season with the Rebels.
The two players talked about what it means to them to play for Ole Miss and why athletes considering it should ‘come to the ‘Sip.’
“You want to come to a family atmosphere, people that welcome you with open arms,” Todd-Williams explained.
“I was a transfer and it’s not easy, of course, but it’s made my ride smooth with coming in and being surrounded by good people and people that actually care about you.”
Kennedy Todd-Williams on why a player should ‘come to the ‘Sip’
Coach Yo’s sincerity and demeanor helped convince Kennedy to come to Ole Miss when she left the Tar Heels.
“Yeah, just her (Coach Yo) believing in me was the biggest thing that really sold me, and just coming to a place where she saw me for who I was as a person. And, you know, she just welcomed me with open arms and was really set out for what I wanted for my future and really took that personally for her. So…I thank God that I’m here, because I wouldn’t know what to do…”

Madison expounded more on what ‘Come to the ‘Sip’ means to her, personally, offering a message to potential Rebels.
“….If you want to be average, this isn’t the place for you. And I say that proudly. I say it each and every day, that when you come here, you’re pushed outside your comfort zone, you’re pushed to be great. Every goal that you set out for that you told Coach Yo you wanted, she’s going to push you to that. She’s going to hold you to that standard.”
Madison Scott
The bottom line is Scott has earned the right to talk about what it means to ‘Come to the ‘Sip.’ On Thursday, she gave some advice to players who think Ole Miss might be the school for them.
“So, some days you’re not going to like it, some days it is going to be tough, but look at where we’re sitting right now. That should be enough to tell you that this is the place to come to. You’re going to be able to come here and, like Toddy (Kennedy Todd-Williams) said, be in a family atmosphere, be around other people that want to be great and also be at a place where everybody’s pushing you, from the managers to our practice players to our staff to our coaches. You’re never alone here.”
Madison Scott
Madison’s final thoughts on why a player should Come to the ‘Sip were heartfelt words of wisdom. This is her 5th year in Coach Yo’s program. She believes in her head coach, her team and her school.
“So that’s why you should come to the ‘Sip, because you’re coming to be a part of something that’s greater than you, that will help you be successful not only on the court, but in life.”
I cannot imagine a better way to explain why someone should ‘come to the ‘Sip’ to play ball.
