Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Lands Commitment from Wichita State Transfer Jayla Murray

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss women’s basketball head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Rebels have picked up a second commitment in a matter of moments, as Wichita State transfer Jayla Murray announced her pledge to Oxford.

Following her commitment, Murray told us why she chose Coach Yo and Ole Miss as her new home.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the SEC, but my path and journey to get this opportunity was different than most. Ole Miss WBB embodies my mindset of hard work and determination and Coach Yo’s goals matched my personal goals for on and off the basketball court.”

Murray was junior Second Team All-Conference forward in 2025 who averaged 12.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and one steal per game for the Shockers, also notching a conference-leading 49.1 percent from the field. The transfer played in 62 career games in two seasons at Wichita State, starting 49 of those.

In 2025, Murray surpassed her points per game average 15 times, scoring double-figures in 20 of her 32 contests. The forward scored a season-high 24 points at UAB in January and recorded a double-double twice this past season.

Beginning her career in JUCO at Florida Southwestern State, Murray was Third Team NJCAA All-American in 2022 and First Team FCSAA All-State.  The forward was also Southern Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Southern Conference. Murray averaged 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a freshman.

With the loss of front court pieces and size such as Starr Jacobs and Madison Scott, Coach Yo adds a physical presence on the interior who she referred to as a ‘dawg’ on the social media platform X following Murray’s commitment. The Rebels are certainly not done in the portal yet, but two commitments within a few hours is an impressive feat just a few days removed from the end of the season.
