Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss Add Super Bowl-Winning Assistant to Rebels’ Staff

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin never stops looking to improve upon his seasoned staff, and his most recent hire is no exception. Then Rebels have added veteran offensive line coach James Cregg to the staff as an analyst.
Cregg has spent the last three seasons in the NFL, first as the assistant o-line coach for the 49ers for two of those, followed by his tenure last year as the offensive line coach for the Raiders.
Coach Kiffin was asked today, the first day of spring practices, about Cregg.
“James Cregg coming in was a good addition. He’s coached in the SEC, NFL and his daughter goes to school here, too. We kind of have a big family up there with our staff and all the people involved. It’s a really cool feeling. I’ve been saying that for a while now that we’re going on our sixth-year here. It’s really good — like Chris Kiffin the year before and Joe Judge — to add these guys with NFL experience is great.”

Coach Kiffin and Cregg have worked together before, first in Oakland in 2007 where Cregg served as assistant offensive line coach for the Raiders. He spent two years there and then followed Kiffin to Tennessee before then joining the Rebels’ coach at USC as the offensive line coach where they worked together for four years.
In 2015, Cregg served as an assistant offensive line coach for the Super-Bowl-winning Denver Broncos. He also spent time as the LSU offensive line coach and run game coordinator under Ed Orgeron from 2018-20. You’ll recall the Tigers won the national title in 2019.
Spring practices continue this week, with the next media availability coming next Tuesday. Usually, we will have access to players on Thursdays as well as Tuesdays; however, this week that schedule changes as most of media will be out of town covering men’s and women’s basketball.
