Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart raises draft stock with strong NFL Combine performance

OXFORD, Miss. – Former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart entered the NFL Scouting Combine with questions about his draft stock and left with a performance that may have solidified his place as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 class.

Dart’s measurables at the Combine included:

  • Height: 6’2″
  • Weight: 223 lbs.
  • Hand: 9 1/2″
  • Arm 30″

During interviews at the Combine, Dart was questioned about his development, leadership, arm strength and more. The former record-setting Rebel quarterback said he is very confident in the player he has become.

“I feel like I can do whatever it takes to win. I feel like I am a culture and an organization changer by the way that I go out there. I was able to win at a rate that hadn’t been done before at the school that I was at. We all have different skill sets and things, but I feel like the intangibles that I bring to an organization set me apart.“

Dart impressed scouts with his arm strength and overall accuracy during throwing drills Saturday in Indianapolis. According to analysts, his deep-ball accuracy and precision on intermediate routes were among the best of the quarterback group.

The signal-caller was also clocked at 58 miles per hour on the throwing velocity test. For reference, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes were clocked at 62 miles per hour. In terms of size and build, Dart was compared to Super Bowl LIX MVP and Eagles quarterback  Jalen Hurts.

Dart’s performance in passing drills was particularly notable given the absence of some top quarterback prospects such as Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, who opted out of throwing. By participating fully, Dart took advantage of the opportunity to stand out.

Former NFL executive for the Miami Dolphins and current football analyst Mike Tannenbaum says there is no doubt that someone will take a chance on Dart in round one.

“I thought he was certainly the best quarterback on the field, and in my eyes he is the number three quarterback in this draft (behind Sanders and Ward)…I thought he threw with really good anticipation and accuracy….Jaxson Dart is clearly number three and is going to go in the first round.”

The former Ole Miss signal-caller tested well athletically, showcasing his mobility, throw power and ability to drop back into the pocket. Dart also believes that he brings a higher level of football IQ and leadership qualities than most quarterback prospects.

Many draft analysts have questioned whether or not the Ole Miss offensive scheme translates to the NFL. However, during Combine interviews Dart explained that the coaching staffs around him have helped prepare him for the next level.

“I had an elite coaching staff this year… brought in Coach (Joe) Judge, who has won multiple Super Bowls and was also an NFL head coach. Conceptually, I’ve run every concept, and I’ve had reps at it. Coach Kiffin, at one point, was the youngest NFL head coach, Coach (Charlie) Weis Jr. coached in the NFL, his dad won Super Bowls… they all know what it looks like. I think that’s kind of a lazy narrative.“

Even so, his performance at the day three of the Combine likely improved his stock. Entering the event, Dart was projected as a potential second or third round pick with the potential that a team could ‘reach’ and pick him earlier. However, some evaluators believe he could push into the mid-to-late first round based on his combine performance and certain teams’ needs.

Mike Detillier, co-host of SportsTalk on WWL Radio in New Orleans and editor and publisher of Mike Detillier’s NFL Draft Report, has been covering top draft prospects since 1985. The draft analyst tells us the former Rebel signal-caller was impressive, highlighting his interview process as well.

“It’s all about his accuracy skills and touch, and he displayed that at the Combine. The ball came out of his hand quickly, he has good arm strength and it’s on target. I’ve long said he goes in Round 1, opinions will vary exactly how high, but he’s a very impressive downfield passer, he has good movement skills to escape pressure and run with the ball…..and he’s a 1st round selection.”

With his combine performance behind him, Dart now turns his attention to his pro day, where he will have another chance to showcase his skills in a more controlled environment at the Manning Center practice facility sometime later in March.

As the draft approaches, teams in need of a quarterback will continue to evaluate Dart’s potential. If his combine performance is any indication, the Rebel legend has made a strong case for himself at the next level.

On day two of the combine during Dart’s team meeting sessions, the quarterback notably met with the Steelers, Browns, Raiders, Seahawks, Cowboys, and Giants.

The 2025 NFL Draft will take place at Lambeau Field on April 24-26, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
