Coach Yo, Ole Miss women’s basketball land commitment from Virginia transfer forward

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and the Rebels have received a commitment from veteran Virginia transfer Latasha Lattimore.
Lattimore is a 6-foot-4 senior forward who averaged 14.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game last season for the Cavaliers.

Prior to her time at Virginia, Lattimore started her career playing for the Texas Longhorns in the 2020-2021 season. As a recruit, she was the No. 38 overall player in the nation in the 2021 class, as ranked by ESPN. Following her time in Austin, she spent two seasons with the Miami Hurricanes before transferring to Virginia last season.
Ole Miss assistant coach Quentin Hillsman recruited the Toronto, Ontario native in high school when he was the head coach of Syracuse.
This past season with Virginia, Lattimore ranked in the Top 20 in the NCAA in blocks per game. She notched 11 double-doubles on the season.
Coach Yo made it clear she believes securing mature talent in the portal is the most efficient way to build a National Championship team. After the Rebels’ loss to UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen last Friday, the Rebels’ head coach talked about the path she prefers.
“Now the next level for us to move forward is to be able to do what UCLA did. Okay, they have been going Sweet 16, Sweet 16 (for three seasons). What did they do? They go get Janiah Barker and bring her off the bench. She’s an All-American. They go get Lauren Betts and let her play. Timea Gardiner. Like, they went and got pieces that allowed them to move forward. The next step for us is to be able to do the same in the portal, because freshmen ain’t doing it, I’m just telling you. So we have to be able to have the support to be able to go and get what we need so that we can move forward. But at minimum I think we should be a Sweet 16 team. Anybody that’s looking at us that has interest, that is what they expect, from the conversations we’ve been having.”

Coach Yo and the Rebs have made a very strong move with the addition of the veteran Lattimore, Ole Miss’ first transfer portal commit of the class.
