FEDERICO SUAVE

Hayden Federico continued the hot start to his collegiate career last week, reaching base at least three times in all three games he played in. He also had at least one hit in each game, extending his career-long hitting streak to four games. Despite not starting in the Rebels’ extra-inning win over Arkansas State, Federico still got three at bats in which he drew a walk, was hit by a pitch, and singled up the middle. He started in two games over the weekend against Eastern Kentucky, going 4-for-7 with a double, two RBI, four stolen bases, and two hit by pitches against the Colonels. He stole three bases in the series finale, including a steal of home.

NUKE HILL

RETURN OF THE KING

Hunter Elliott has dominated in so far in his return to the mound after not pitching for nearly two years. He has made two starts, picked up two wins, and has yet to allow a run to score. Last weekend against Eastern Kentucky Elliott tied his career high with 10 strikeouts, did not allow a free pass and faced just one batter over the minimum during his six innings, picking off two of the only three baserunners. In every inning but the fourth, Elliott struck out at least two batters and nine of his 10 with a swing and miss.

FOR THE CAUSE

Will McCausland made his Rebel debut at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, picking up the win over Clemson. He worked 3.2 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight batters in what was the first appearance out of the bullpen in his career. He retired the first seven hitters he faced and made eight of 11 outs via the punchout.

HOOK ‘EM

Walker Hooks has made three appearances already in his young career allowing just one baserunner, who he then picked off, over 4.2 innings of work. He made his debut on February 15 against No. 19 Texas, coming out of the bullpen with the bases loaded and just one out. He struck out the first two hitters he faced and would go on to retire all eight he saw. The freshman is up to eight total strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .067 batting average against.

Since being named a three-time Freshman All-American in 2022, Elliott has been sidelined for nearly two full seasons with an elbow injury. In 2022, Elliott set an Ole Miss freshman record for strikeouts in a season with 102. He finished second on the team with a 2.70 ERA over 20 appearances.

Sanford is the reigning Southland Hitter of the Year and was also named to the All-Southland First Team and All-Defensive Team in 2024 after hitting .381 with New Orleans last year. Humphrey played three seasons at Louisville where he hit .300 in 166 games in his career.

TOP OF THE HILL

Luke Hill was ranked as the No. 29 third baseman in the country according to D1Baseball’s Preseason Top 50 Third Basemen List.
