NFL Analyst draws comparison of former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart to current Super Bowl MVP

OXFORD, Miss. – The NFL Draft is nearly two months from today, and with the Combine taking place in Indianapolis next week, conversations are heating up around many of the Ole Miss prospects. For guys like quarterback Jaxson Dart, this is an opportunity to boost himself into an undoubted first-round pick while turning the heads of scouts with his on and off-the-field behavior.

Currently, NFL Network’s lead draft analyst, Daniel Jeremiah, refers to Dart as the “third guy” in his quarterback rankings behind Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. The sports writer even went as far as to compare Dart’s style of play to the reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts.

Got kind of a similar build, similar frame. They’re both really good athletes. They’re both beloved by their teammates, say the right things, do all the right things, and do all the stuff on and off the field. There’s a lot of similarities there.

– Jeremiah on the similarities between Dart and Hurts

Looking further into the comparison of the quarterbacks, Dart and Hurts blossomed into NFL draft prospects as transfer players and threw for roughly 4,000 yards and over 25 touchdowns, while completing 69% of their passes in their senior seasons.

For Jaxson at Ole Miss, Jeremiah credited Lane Kiffin’s offense for giving him a wide variety of options early in his progressions to make a play.

Lane does a really good job of getting to the point where early in progressions you’re going to have places to distribute the football. You’ll see some POs. You’ll see some seams, some — they take a lot of deep shots, but they’re kind of designed deep shots. You kind of know where the ball is going, but he throws a nice deep ball to work on from that regard, not just kind of getting deeper in progressions.”

– Jeremiah on the benefit of Kiffin

After meeting Dart and seeing the attitude he conveys in all areas of life, Jeremiah wrapped up his thoughts with high praise for the Rebel legend.

He’s a really, really good kid, presents himself really well, and I think there’s a lot of tools to work with. That’s why I have him as the third quarterback.
