Guachino Strikes Out 14, Throws Two-Hitter in Softball’s Win Over North Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – (Release) Behind another standout performance in the circle by Miali Guachino, the Ole Miss softball program earned a fourth-consecutive shutout, defeating North Alabama, 4-0 on Friday at Toyota Field.
The Rebels (9-3, 0-0 SEC) were paced the freshman Guachino, who delivered seven complete innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 14. The Rebels got two RBI from Angelina DeLeon in the win over the Lions (9-1, 0-0 ASUN).
Both sides got off to strong starts in the circle, with neither side recording a hit through the first three innings. Guachino blasted through the Lions lineup in her first time through the order, tallying seven strikeouts over three frames.

While the Lions got the first hit of the game in the fourth inning, the Rebels quickly answered. Lexie Brady led off the frame with a walk and Taylor Roman reached on a fielding error. DeLeon stepped up to the plate and drove home the game’s first run with an RBI single up the middle. From there, the Rebels added another run on a botched run-down play by the Lions, as Tenly Grisham scampered home for a 2-0 lead.
Guachino continued to roll, tallying three more strikeouts in the fifth inning, while her offense slowly gave her more insurance. For the third time, Brady drew a walk and Mackenzie Pickens singled to set up DeLeon. DeLeon roped ball at third base that deflected out into foul territory, allowing Brady to come home and make it 3-0.
Brady continued her big day in the seventh inning to put the game away, as Jaden Pone singled and advanced to second base to set her up. The senior delivered an RBI single to reach for the fourth time, scoring Pone and making it 4-0.
Guachino promptly closed out the win, striking out her 14th batter and working around a double to secure her fifth win of the season.
Ole Miss is back in action on Saturday, as they face Miami at 3 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via FloCollege.
