Ole Miss transfer QB Walker Howard Commits to Louisiana

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss transfer quarterback Walker Howard is headed home, committing to play for Louisiana, as first reported by Griffin McVeigh. Howard is from Lafayette, Louisiana, and the hometown Ragin’ Cajuns were the first school to offer him back when he was a sophomore in high school at St. Thomas Moore.

Walker originally committed to LSU, and completed 2 of 4 passes for seven yards as a freshman for the Tigers in 2022.

In his time at quarterback for St. Thomas More, the Lafayette, Louisiana native led his team to two state titles. Howard was named the 2020 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year and was also a five-star prospect. He was ranked as the No. 5 quarterback for the Class of 2022.

At Ole Miss, Howard was behind three-year starter Jaxson Dart at quarterback and later moved to third string as Austin Simmons took over the backup QB spot.

“I think it was very close,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said on his backup quarterback battle in preseason. “Both guys had a really good camp. Did really well. It was a hard decision. Just felt that Austin played a little better right at the end, the last couple competitive situations, but it was a very hard decision. We’re very confident as you saw with both guys going in there and running our offense,” Kiffin added.

Both the Ragin’ Cajuns two starting quarterbacks from this past season, Ben Wooldridge and Chandler Fields, are now out of eligibility.

We wish the best of luck to Walker as he continues his football career!
