Ole Miss Men’s Basketball Tops Colorado State in Southaven

OXFORD, Miss. – (Release) Five Rebels scored in double-figures as No. 25 Ole Miss defeated Colorado State 84-69, Saturday afternoon in Southaven, Miss. in the Landers Center. Jaylen Murray led the Rebels with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting including 6-of-6 at the charity stripe.

Hot shooting propelled Ole Miss (4-0) to an early first-half lead. The Rebels shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) in the first half including 6-of-12 from long range. Six different Rebels had a first half triple with Malik Dia and Mikeal Brown-Jones leading with nine points each.

Ole Miss led by as many as 24 in the opening half and took a 19-point lead into the locker room with a 45-26 lead.

Colorado State (3-1) chipped away in the second half shooting 58.3 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes (14-for-24). Colorado State’s Jalen Lake led the Rams with 15 points in the second half as the lead was cut to nine with 5:43 to play.

Ole Miss responded with a Murray three, followed by a Davon Barnes layup off a Ram turnover. Dre Davis put the game on ice with an offensive rebound putback followed by a free throw to stretch the lead to 16 with 48 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Rebels grabbed nine offensive rebounds on the afternoon and help a 22-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Ole Miss returns to action next Thursday, Nov. 21 at home against Oral Roberts. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.

NOTABLES

  • Jaylen Murray led Ole Miss with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Murray also led the team in passing with six helpers and no turnovers. He was 6-of-6 at the charity stripe keeping him perfect on the season from the free-throw line.
  • Five Rebels scored in double-figures: Murray (16), Mikeal Brown-Jones (14), Malik Dia (11), Dre Davis (11), and Matthew Murrell (10).
  • The Rebels had only four turnovers on the afternoon, marking a season low. The Rebels improve to 22-10 under Chris Beard when committing 15 or fewer TO’s.
  • Ole Miss shot 50.9 percent from the floor (28-for-55) and 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from downtown. Five players shot 50.0 percent or better in the win.
  • Chris Beard is now on a 19-game win streak in the month of November. He own a record of 45-6 in his D1 coaching career.
