Ole Miss DB Trey Amos offers insight into Rebels’ mindset as they take on Georgia: ‘We have to execute’
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss defensive back Trey Amos talked earlier this week about he and his teammates staying laser-focused on the game plan and the improvement he feels they have made.
The loss Ole Miss suffered in overtime at the hands of the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge a couple of weeks ago can do one of two things: it can discourage a team or encourage a response. Amos, the Rebel cornerback — and team leader in interceptions — believes the Landshark defense has responded in a big way since the loss and has continued through wins over Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“That started in practice…just wanting to be better, you know. We have a goal. Just keep on stacking these wins.”

The Rebel defense currently leads the country in sacks with 42 thus far in the season. Amos commented on what it has been like watching the Ole Miss front go to work every week in 2024.
“It makes it a whole lot easier. The D-Line is getting to the QB and making the quarterback make errors. We just have to make the plays on those errors and make them pay.”

Amos leads the Rebels in interceptions so far this season with three, adding a team-leading 11 pass deflections to that as well. However, the Rebel defensive back gives all the credit to the Ole Miss defensive line before speaking on his own improvements.
“I feel like I have improved, but I still feel like I have a lot left on the table. For the interception part, I can thank the D-Line. Them boys have been eating the whole year. I appreciate those guys being able to put me in a position where I can make plays as well. I’ve improved my zone eyes and man coverage, and I am looking forward to getting better throughout the season.”

With one of the most anticipated matchups of the 2024 college football season just hours away, the nerves and excitement start to creep in on teams and fan bases of both squads. Although excited about the matchup, Amos explained how he and the Rebels have handled it all.
“I would say we are really excited, but you have to take it day-by-day. Just going to practice, learning our keys throughout the week, and just wanting to get better and execute.”

Although the stats do not necessarily show it, the Georgia offense can be elite when firing on all cylinders. With playmakers and highly-touted prospects all over the field, the Rebel defense will have its hands full against the Bulldogs. But Amos believes the plan for Ole Miss is straightforward.
“They have a good running game. Their run game can lead to big plays from their passing game. We just have to find ways to have a good plan to set around it. We have to execute.”

Coming into the season, it’s safe to say the Rebels did not see themselves entering the matchup against the Bulldogs with two losses. With everything still on the table for Ole Miss, Amos believes that confidence and going to work are the keys.
“We just have to keep our heads down and keep on working. Like I said, we have to be confident in what we’re doing and just be confident that the coaches and the players are all in. At the end of the day, we just have to do our jobs.”
