Postgame Notables: Ole Miss defeats South Carolina 27-3 in key SEC win

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ole Miss earned a dominating 27-3 win over South Carolina Saturday in Columbia. With the victory, the Rebels move to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

Here are some notes and notables from the win.

Series Notes

• This game marked the 18th all-time meeting between the Rebels and Gamecocks.

• The Rebels lead the series 10-8 with today’s win.

• Ole Miss has won seven of the last 10 games against South Carolina.

Starters

• S Yam Banks made his first start as a Rebel.

• QB Jaxson Dart made his team-leading 30th-straight start against South Carolina.

• Other notable starting streaks include S Trey Washington (21st), S John Saunders Jr. (19th) and Caden Prieskorn (16th).

• RB Henry Parrish Jr. and DT Walter Nolen made their respective 20th starts of their overall careers.

General Notes

• Attendance for today’s game was 79,837.

• Head coach Lane Kiffin earned his 100th overall career victory … Kiffin is one of 30 active FBS coaches to surpass the century mark in career wins and one of three in the SEC alongside LSU’s Brian Kelly and Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer (including their wins outside the FBS).

• Ole Miss’ 425 total yards is the most given up by the South Carolina defense this season.

• QB Jaxson Dart passed Matt Corral (8,287) for third all-time in passing yards with 8,438 … Dart had 285 yards through the air against the Gamecocks.

• Dart has entered Ole Miss’ single-season top-20 list for passing yards with 2,100 … He joins Eli Manning and Bo Wallace as the only Ole Miss quarterbacks to have three seasons in the top-20.

• Dart passed for 206 yards in the first half, his fourth 200-yard first half this season.

• Ole Miss scored three or more rushing touchdowns for the fifth time this season … DT JJ Pegues picked up his third and fourth career rushing touchdowns, all coming this season while RB Henry Parrish Jr. rushed for his team-leading ninth touchdown of the season.

• Pegues has recorded a multi-touchdown game for the first time in his career and is behind Parrish for second-most rushing touchdowns by the Rebels this season … He became the first SEC defensive lineman in 20 years to rush for four touchdowns in a season.

• WR Jordan Watkins eclipsed the 100-reception mark for his Ole Miss career and sits at 103 … Watkins finished the day with five catches for 72 yards.

• WRs Tre Harris had his third reception of 50-plus yards this season and the fourth as a Rebel … He accounts for half (3-of-6) of Ole Miss’ plays of 50 yards or longer.

Defensive Notes

• Ole Miss held South Carolina to only three points, the fewest allowed by a Rebel defense against an SEC opponent since holding Texas A&M to three in 2015.

• The Rebel defense had six sacks, setting a season-high for the second week in a row … The unit now has 24 sacks on the season

• Ole Miss had 10 tackles for loss, subtracting 38 yards from South Carolina … The Rebels have recorded nine or more tackles for loss in five games in 2024,

• The Rebels have also now reached double-digit TFL in four games, the most in a single season by Ole Miss since the 2015 Rebels did so four total times.

• Ole Miss allowed more than 100 yards rushing for the first time this season, snapping a streak of five straight games keeping opponents below the century mark … That was the longest such streak since doing so in six straight to open the 1999 season.

• Dottery recorded 10-plus tackles for the second straight week … He’s led the team in tackles in consecutive weeks, while picking up 11 solo tackles, his first career sack and a pass breakup

• Perkins recorded eight tackles in the first half … He ended the game with a career-high 12 tackles in his first start of 2024.

• DT Walter Nolen recovered a fumble for the second time in his career in the first quarter … Nolen had a career-high two sacks and five tackles.

Special Teams Notes

• K Caden Davis scored nine points against South Carolina … He has scored a team-leading 60 points thus far in 2024.

• Davis hit a 44-yard field goal, his longest of 2024.

• P Fraser Masin had three punts of 50-plus yards, including a season-long 53-yarder.
