Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart talks about the challenges of playing LSU in Tiger Stadium

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart joined SportsCenter yesterday to analyze what unique challenges the Rebels will face in Death Valley Saturday night. Dart began by offering his opening thoughts on the top 15 matchup.

Initially, just going into Death Valley is always a tough task. I played there my first year, and just how electric the atmosphere is and the stadium, I’m really excited for the opportunity. It’s always a fun game going against a great team and, at the same time, fighting for the Magnolia Bowl Trophy. We try to take the approach to prepare each and every day and do all that we can to be ready for it.

Dart also talked his team’s resiliency and how he believes his team has moved forward from a loss to Kentucky several weeks ago.

“When you go through adversity, there’s two ways to go about it. You can either divide or come together. I feel that  the guys in the locker room, from them all the way to the coaching staff. We all came together…This week is really going to show what our identity and culture is about. We have a lot of urgency and we understand the point of emphasis going into each and every week of going 1-0. A lot of things are going to be shown. I feel like we’re ready for it, but at the same time, we have to make sure we’re really prepared for this game.”

This weekend, Ole Miss will play LSU for the 113th time, and the Rebels will be looking for their first win in Tiger Stadium since 2008. Unlike the 2008 team, this Rebel squad consists of 25 new players from the transfer portal who’ve never had the opportunity to experience the Magnolia Bowl rivalry. Despite the unfamiliarity, Dart says the goal on Saturday will remain the same as last week in Columbia: to take the crowd out of the game.

If you know anything about Ole Miss, you know we take a lot of transfer portal guys, so a lot of people on our team haven’t played in Death Valley. I think the first thing that you always have to hit on is just how loud and electric the atmosphere is. The best way to try to gauge it and handle it is to try to quiet it as much as you can by putting points on the board and obviously holding them to no points, so it’s going to be a really fun opportunity. As a kid, this is a game that you always dream of playing in, so we’re really excited for the opportunity to go in there and play.”

As Jaxson mentioned, the chants and cheers of LSU will be ringing on Saturday night. Therefore, during practice this week, the Rebs have done everything possible to ensure they are prepared when kickoff arrives in two days.

Well, each and every week we try to do all we can to best replicate the sound. There’s obviously nothing you can really do to match it, you know the intensity and whatnot, but we do all we can to try and replicate it by using the chants that they use, the songs, anything you can really think of.
