Jaxson Dart Offers His Best Lane Kiffin Story, Thoughts on Ole Miss Offense, and More

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart joined SportsCenter with Kevin Negandhi for a brief interview, involving a wide variety of topics, from Star Wars to pickleball to Lane Kiffin, and so much more.

Q: How would you describe this offense?

A: “If I had to put it into one word, it would be electric. We have great playmakers, I’m really just out there playing point guard, just trying to get the ball to the playmakers. They make my job look a lot easier. I have a great coaching staff around me, putting me in great positions to succeed each and every play.”

Q: Juice Wells says that you talk to the offense like a coach on the sidelines during the game, what’s your mentality during a game?

A: “I think the biggest thing is I’ve learned a lot from Coach Kiffin. Just his ability to make adjustments in and out of possessions, especially during halftime. With the pads, the luxury we have of making adjustments is very quick nowadays, so I think that just having really good communication on the sidelines and going out each drive very prepared is a huge advantage for us, and I think we do a really good job at it.”

Q: You wear this eye black across your right eye, and it comes from Anakin Skywalker and Star Wars, but why Anakin?

A: He was the first real big character. There’s nothing too significant about it other than I’m a big Star Wars fan, and I kind of contributed it to his scar, and I liked him as a character.”

Q: With your love of Star Wars, what character is Lane Kiffin?

A: “I’d say the only right character would be Yoda. With his wisdom, his knowledge, I’m constantly learning things from him day in and day out, and I think you could go across the college football landscape and talk to any coach or play and they’d all say he’s one of the best, if not the best offensive mind. He’s definitely somebody I look up to in that regard.”

Q: What’s your best Lane Kiffin story?

A: “I’d probably have to refer back to a pickleball game that we had. He calls it a ‘marquee matchup.’ We play it on prime time at 7:30, and it was me and my tight end, Caden Prieskorn, versus Soyer, one of the coaches here. They ended up beating us, and Coach Kiffin said it was a bigger win than our LSU win last year, which I thought was crazy… and he’s a troll, so he’s going to use it every chance he can get.”

Q: You play Kentucky at 11:00 am, and a few hours later there’s a primetime matchup in Tuscaloosa, how closely will you be paying attention to Georgia vs. Alabama?

A: “Obviously right now I’m just looking forward to our game, but I’ll definitely be tuning into it. It’s been fun going to the Manning passing academy and meeting a lot of quarterbacks around the country and having some time to spend with Jalen (Milroe) and Carson (Beck), so it’s going to be fun to watch them hash it out on the field together.”
