Ole Miss Wideout Tre Harris Embracing the Grind, Excited for the 2024 Season

OXFORD, Miss. – Tuesday morning, Ole Miss star wide receiver Tre Harris took the podium for weekly game week press conferences, expressing his excitement for the season while also staying focused on the main goal. Here is everything Tre had to say:

Getting better by the day

One of the first questions wideout Tre Harris was asked Tuesday morning was how he could build off of his insane four-touchdown debut from week one a year ago. Harris has always been a guy who seems to be locked in on helping the team — as opposed to himself — and this year is no different. The Rebel playmaker is more worried about getting win number one under the team’s belt than scoring his own touchdowns.

I don’t know, to be completely honest with you. I hope I can one-up it, but we’re really just trying to go out there and get a win. First game, get one under our belts and continue on throughout the season.

Harris has put in plenty of work this offseason and the results have already shown throughout camp. However, the number one target on the Ole Miss offense decided to give praise to a pair of sophomores who have put in a ton of work this past year: Cayden Lee and Ayden Williams.

They stepped up not just throughout this month but really throughout the entire year. They really took big leaps off the field, really just coming in and getting as much film work as possible. It’s hard for a guy who doesn’t necessarily have a lot of reps like Jordan Watkins and Juice (Wells), but for them, that is how they kind of leveled the playing field. I am really excited for them and excited to see what they will do in the first game. Don’t be surprised if those names are popping up a lot.

Harris on the Defense

Shortly after, Harris was asked about another area of the team, the defense. Throughout fall camp Harris has been seen matched up against Alabama transfer Trey Amos, a player who could be one of the best cover corners in the SEC. The star wideout was asked about what the defense looks like as a unit this time around.

I am really excited to watch them, super excited to watch the D-Line just wreak havoc. Me and Trey (Amos) have been battling all camp, excited to see him get out there. He finally gets to go against someone other than myself, and I’m ready to finally go against another opponent. I am ready to see the defense fly around, be fast, be physical, that’s really what gets the offense going as well.

Tre Harris on Jaxson Dart

Another player Harris is not shy to praise is his quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Harris and the Rebel signal-caller continue to remain close, entering their ‘Last Dance’ season together. Harris had some strong words to say about his teammate.

His work ethic, that is one thing I have said constantly throughout the interviews I have done. His work ethic has really improved and it’s honestly contagious…He made me a better player; he made me a better worker. Just constantly working with him and seeing the work he is putting in whether that is off the field, recovery or even on the field when he is throwing and doing different motions. Definitely his work ethic and the way he carries himself around the building, how he demands respect, how he demands leadership. Those are things that he worked on throughout the entire offseason and it’s coming to fruition, it’s coming to life now.

Keeping the main thing, the main thing

One thing about Harris that will always be true is his pure dedication to the grind. Over the past year since becoming a Rebel before the start of the 2023 season, Harris has shown time and time again that he is willing to put in the work to be better every day.

Tuesday morning, Harris was asked about how the offense has been coming along during camp and where he feels they are heading into game one.

We have been meshing really well. We still have some small things to clean up, but we are still keeping the main thing, the main thing. We’re getting one percent better every day and come Saturday y’all will see it.

Of course, Harris also took the time to break down the matchup this week against Furman. The Rebel playmaker claimed they were a well-coached team, but also not as experienced as they had been in previous years.

We have been looking at it since last week, we had the mock game this past Saturday…they’re a really well-coached team, really disciplined team, a lot of smart kids on their team, however, they are inexperienced. So, we’re just trying to take advantage of that inexperience, they lost a lot of guys from last year. Just find ways to get at those players who are not as experienced as us, that is really the main thing.

One thing for certain about the 2024 Ole Miss team is the brotherly bond in the locker room. Numerous players and staff members have claimed that this year just feels different, stating everyone feels a little closer together this offseason. Harris gave credit to the team as a whole where it was due.

I feel like it’s an even more tight-knit group than last year. Fall camp can be hard, it’s dog days, real long days, and for the team to come in and enjoy being around each other, enjoy each other’s company, laughing with each other. It is just a huge acknowledgment to not just the team but the coaching staff as well. Just constantly forcing us to really get to know each other off the field. That is something we have all done really well and I am super proud of this team.
