Ole Miss pitcher Wes Mendes enters transfer portal
OXFORD, Miss. – After losing pitchers Grayson Saunier, JT Quinn, Liam Doyle, and others to the transfer portal, the Ole Miss baseball team is losing yet another, as rising sophomore Wes Mendes has also entered the portal. The Rebel Walk had been aware of this possibility and confirmed today that he has indeed entered.
Despite being a true freshman, Mendes saw a great deal of time on the bump this past season, pitching a total of 31.2 innings. He closed out the year with a 6.82 earned run average and a 2-1 record while walking 19 hitters and striking out 43.
The southpaw and Tampa, Florida native was used as a starter and reliever but was expected to become a full-time weekend starter next spring.

Being as he is such a young player, the potential is evident in Mendes, so it’s unfortunate his future success will not occur in a Rebel uniform. In the coming weeks, I am sure we will see Coach Mike Bianco recruit several pitchers out of the transfer portal in hopes of replacing the lost talent.
Mendes is the 14th Ole Miss payer to enter the portal from this past season’s team. He joins: C Trenton Lyons, RF Seth Farni, RF Treyson Hughes, RHP Grayson Saunier, RHP Corey Braun, C Eli Berch, RHP Gabe Smith, LF John Kramer, RHP Kyler Carmack, RHP Cole Tolbert, 3B Andrew Fischer, RHP JT Quinn and LHP Liam Doyle.
Additions to the team through the portal, thus far, include: Collin Reuter (BYU), RHP Will McCausland (St. Joseph) , SS Luke Cheng (Illinois State) and OF Ryan Moerman (Illinois).
