Ole Miss AD Keith Carter Discusses Plans for Rebels’ Pitching Coach to be Hired; Swayze Renovations Placed on Pause
OXFORD, Miss. Following Ole Miss baseball’s second consecutive year of play without entering the NCAA tournament, rumors and concerns regarding a change in the coaching staff quickly spread around the fanbase. Tuesday night at the Rebel Road Trip event in Memphis, Athletic Director Keith Carter answered a question to put at least one of the queries to rest, the status of the hiring of a pitching coach.
“Obviously, the past two years haven’t been what our standard is, and coming off of a national championship, it’s not the consistency and standard that we expect with Ole Miss Baseball. Coach B and I had a great conversation the Wednesday after we played in Hoover, and we talked about staff structure. We are out on the market right now for a pitching coach, and I think that it’s going to be a really cool addition. It allows Coach B to be a manager more in the dugout with the position guys and lets the pitching coach handle the pitching… It’s a big responsibility.”

In addition to those adaptations on the field, Carter dove into another aspect of change in regards to the Swayze Field renovations. Though the ballpark was planning on expanding along the left-field side of the stadium, those plans have now been put on hold.
“For the next couple of years, you won’t see anything major. We have some things going down with our soccer stadium and some of our women’s facilities. But with the west side of the football stadium and even the baseball project, we are going to that on pause for now until we figure out where we are going with all of this.”
