Ole Miss Baseball Falls In Governor’s Cup Game Against No. 16 Bulldogs
PEARL, Miss. – (Release) Ole Miss Baseball (23-21, 7-14 SEC) fell 5-1 to No. 16 Mississippi State (30-15, 12-9 SEC) Wednesday night in the teams’ annual Governor’s Cup matchup at Trustmark Park.
Judd Utermark opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run down the line in left that was hit 106.6 mph off the bat and traveled 394 feet. Utermark would end up finishing the game 2-for-4 with the home run and a single.
Grayson Saunier turned in a clean start, giving up just four hits and a walk over four scoreless innings. After loading the bases in the first inning, he retired 10 of the next 12 hitters he faced and left with a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs were kept fairly quiet until the fifth inning when they used three singles to score their first run of the game and tie it up at 1-1.
JT Quinn and Josh Mallitz turned in good innings out of the bullpen to preserve the 1-1 tie until the eighth inning.
Mississippi State scored four runs on the eighth to break things open and left two Rebels on base in the ninth to close out the win.

Ole Miss travels to Auburn to face the Tigers in a Friday-Saturday-Sunday series. First pitch Friday is set for 6:00 p.m.
