Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris continues to impress and improve heading into his senior season

OXFORD, Miss. – Amidst all of the pre-season honors and hype, Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris continues to impress and improve heading into his senior season in Oxford. Thursday after practice, Harris spoke with the media to discuss how the spring has been for him.

Improving for 2024

One of my main observations while watching Tre Harris this spring is he had noticeably tacked on some muscle. Nutrition and staying healthy have been big focal points for many of the Ole Miss players who have stepped to the podium this spring, Harris included.

The Ole Miss playmaker commented this week gaining weight and staying healthy.

He actually hit it on the head (Jordan Watkins talking about eating right). Nutrition is a big thing. I have actually gained six pounds of pure muscle; I have been playing around 215 this whole spring…I feel like for me personally, if I practice a lot I’m not going to have any soft tissue injuries. So just going out there and practicing, putting all my effort out there, and just doing the extra things off the field like getting in the treatment room and working out hard.

For reference, Harris played the 2023 season at around 200 to 205 pounds. He also seems to be moving even more swiftly on his routes in videos posted on social media by Ole Miss receivers coach George McDonald.

Harris also spoke about other receivers in the room, Cayden Lee and Noreel White. The veteran wideout claimed he ‘already knew’ about Lee’s talent from last season but praised both Lee and White for continuing to work and learn. Harris also commented on Devin Price and his aggressiveness, as the FAU transfer is beginning to turn some heads.

He (Price) is really aggressive. I really like the way he plays, especially just with run blocking. He just goes out there and puts everything on the line, he makes a ton of aggressive catches…he’s starting to improve as well. Just starting to pick up things from the meetings and apply it on the field. It’s huge having a guy like that who can come in and set a tone with how aggressive he is against DBs.

Adjusting to a new WR coach

Ole Miss hired former Illinois wide receiver coach and assistant head coach George McDonald earlier this year after the departure of longtime assistant Derrick Nix. Since his arrival in Oxford, McDonald has received nothing but praise from the players and other staff members, and Harris is the latest to add to that.

It has been great…at first everyone was getting to know each other, but as spring went on everyone has started to gel and click at the right time…Going forward, it’s going to be a really good season, especially having him. He’s always looking to give you tips, show you new things on the field and just looks to improve your game. That is off the field as well, he is always on me about academics. Just having a coach like that in your ear who is really pushing you and trying to keep you on the path you are looking to stay on is huge.

Other receivers in the room have expressed their gratitude towards McDonald as well. The first-year Rebel coach seems to always show the love back too, posting clips on social media of his receivers putting in the work.

More and more honors

Harris, the number one target in Oxford, has already received plenty of pre-season honors and hype heading into the 2024 season — including being named a pre-season All-American by ESPN.

Last year, Harris was amongst the best when left 1-0n-1 on the outside. PFF recently recognized Harris as the highest graded receiver in 2023 against press coverage. Moving forward, it is probably not the best idea to leave Jaxson Dart‘s number one target on an island moving forward.

Playing in 11 of the 13 games a season ago for the Rebels, after missing two due to injury, Harris notched 54 receptions for 985 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Ole Miss wideout is expected to be even better this season as he looks towards bigger goals in 2024.
