NFL Rebels | Ole Miss Cornerback Deantre Prince Drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss cornerback Deantre Prince has been drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round with the 153rd overall pick.

Deantre was a three-year starter at Ole Miss. He played primarily field cornerback in defensive coordinator Pete Golding’s scheme (mostly zone looks with some man-to-man mixed in). He played in all 51 games during his time in Oxford.

Prince declared for the 2024 Draft after helping lead Ole Miss’ defense to a Peach Bowl victory, and he finished his four-year career as a Rebel with 146 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions, 21 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

Invited to the 2024 NFL Combine, the Charleston, Miss. draft prospect measured in at 6’0” and 183 pounds, putting together an impressive showing.

He produced a 4.38 40-yard dash that ranked seventh among corners and the top 10-yard split time at 1.47.

Dane Brugler of  The Athletic offers these strengths for Prince:

  • Above-average blend of height and speed
  • Accelerates cleanly with his first step downhill
  • Does wide receiver-like things at the catch point
  • Has a knack for playing through the hands of pass catchers to get the ball on the ground
  • Tough-minded nature to get physical in press and will use the sideline as his friend
  • Solid open-field tackler with good breakdown mechanics to aid his finish when working downhill

Congratulations to Deantre!
