High-Usage Guard Noah Reynolds Set to Visit Ole Miss Men’s Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. — With scholarship openings for next year’s men’s basketball team, Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard and his staff have been hitting the transfer portal to try and improve the Ole Miss squad. A theme I noticed so far in all of the players that Coach Beard has either visited with during in-home visits or incoming visits to Oxford are high-usage players. One such athlete is University of Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix point guard Noah Reynolds.

Reynolds is an incoming senior from Peoria, Illinois who is slated to visit Oxford April 13th. The 6-foot-3 Reynolds entered his name in the transfer portal for the second time in two years. He started his collegiate career with the Wyoming Cowboys and really showed signs of progressions during his two years in Laramie. From averaging 2.9 PTS and 0.7 AST per game in his freshman season, he took off in his sophomore campaign by averaging 14.5 PTS and 2.7 AST per game.

Noah Reynolds earned First Team-All Horizon League with the Green Bay Phoenix.

He then decided to leave Laramie, and transfer closer to home to attend Wisconsin Green Bay. This past year with the Phoenix was his best year by far, as the No. 75 overall player in the transfer portal averaged 20 PTS, 3.7 REB, and 4.5 AST per game. Reynolds was the Phoenix’ leading scorer and led the team in assists. He even shot a whopping 51% from the field which is in the 95th percentile among all players in college basketball. These stats, alone, were good enough to earn First Team-All Horizon League and finish top 5 in the Horizon League in both points per game and assists per game.

Outside of his stats, Reynolds is exactly the type of player Coach Beard is looking for. He is a strong guard who has played a ton of minutes and loves to have the ball in his hands. This past season, he held a 32% usage rate, which ranks 2nd in the Horizon League and in the 99th percentile among the entire NCAA. Reynolds is an absolute work-horse and averaged about 34 minutes per game. His ability to handle the basketball and be on the court for long stretches at a time is exactly the type of player Beard is trying to bring to Oxford.

Reynolds is a true point guard who is quick and shifty, and he can get downhill in a hurry. The Green Bay transfer scores a large majority of his points at the rim. In total, he averaged 11.2 two-point attempts per game which is in the 99th percentile among all NCAA players, and he scores on those shots around 56% of the time. Green Bay liked to utilize Reynolds in pick and roll scenarios (42% of possessions) because of his ability to blow by defenders and shoot off the dribble. Reynolds is an average outside shooter; however, he really excels shooting off the dribble which 54% of his shots last season were of this type.

Reynold does not only have a wealth of scoring talent, he is also an excellent passer. He owns a 33% assist rate (98th percentile) and is a very crafty passer. Reynolds would be an excellent fit to play the true point guard on next year’s squad as JuJu Murray was thrown into that role this season. With the addition of Reynolds, Coach Beard would have a player who can score in bunches, but also get other teammates involved through his excellent passing abilities.

Reynolds is set to visit the Ole Miss campus on April 13th, and is the second player slated to visit Oxford in the transfer portal cycle. Stay up to date on more Ole Miss basketball news at The Rebel Walk! Hotty Toddy!
