Coach Bianco Reveals Injury Status of Pitcher/QB Austin Simmons: ‘…the MRI did show an injury to the UCL’

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss pitcher and Rebel football quarterback Austin Simmons suffered an injury Thursday night in the Diamond Rebs’ 12-0 loss to Alabama. After Friday night’s 9-8 win in game two of the series, head coach Mike Bianco revealed what the injury is, saying it is his elbow as was feared.

He had an MRI this morning (Friday). We met earlier in the afternoon with our team orthopedic. A lot of different phone calls from football and a lot of concern about Austin. (I) don’t have much information for you tonight, but the MRI did show an injury to the UCL. How severe that is and what that pertains — (we will ascertain) obviously when it’s been a few days and the MRI has already been sent to several orthopedics that specialize in this injury. Because of what type of athlete he is, some of them have to do with football as well. That’s all I know and really all I can share with you. As soon as we know more, probably leading into early or mid next week we’ll let you know.
