Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Duo of Marquesha Davis and Madison Scott Named First Team All-SEC
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – (Release) Coming off of a historical regular season for Ole Miss basketball with a program best 12 SEC wins, Marquesha Davis (First Team All-SEC) and Madison Scott (First Team All-SEC & All-Defensive) have been honored by the league’s coaches as the SEC announced its yearly conference awards Tuesday.
Davis and Scott become the 16th and 17th Rebels in school history to earn first team accolades and are the first duo to do so in the same year since 1989.
In her two seasons as a Rebel, Davis exploded onto the scene this year with six 20-point performances and season-high 25 points at Vanderbilt en route to leading Ole Miss with 13.8 points per game. Hitting conference play, Davis turned it up a notch, reaching double-figures in scoring in 13 out of 16 contests.
With a smooth jumper in her arsenal, Davis averaged 15.7 points per game while shooting at a clip of 45.8% in SEC action. A defensive threat, Davis also totaled 27 steals in conference play for an average of 1.7 per outing.
Starting in all 29 games for Ole Miss, Davis tallied 23 games in double-figure scoring and led the Rebels in scoring in 12. In Ole Miss’ overtime comeback victory at Florida, Davis hit the game tying jumper as time dwindled in regulation to force overtime and earn her lone double-double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Davis, a McGehee, Arkansas, native was most recently named a finalist for the 2024 Gillom Trophy, awarded to the best collegiate women’s basketball player in the state of Mississippi.
After earning Second Team All-SEC honors last season, Scott’s game continues to flourish in her fourth season in Oxford, with her First Team All-SEC nod of her career.
The Indian Head, Maryland, product also earns back-to-back All Defensive team honors after pacing the Rebels with 6.1 rebounds per game and seven double-doubles on the year. Scott went on a tear toward the latter half of SEC play, scoring in double-digits the last eight games of the conference slate.
Following an electrifying three games at the Battle4Atlantis and leading Ole Miss to the tournament title, Scott was named the tournament’s most valuable player after averaging 13.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game on Paradise Island. Lifting Ole Miss in the comeback win at Florida, Scott notched a new career-high scoring with an explosive 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. With 27 career double-doubles, Scott sits tied for No. 7 All-time at Ole Miss.
After her standout weeks in The Bahamas and against Florida and Mississippi State, Scott became the first Rebel to earn multiple SEC Player of the Week honors in the same season since Armintie Price in 2006-07. In 28 games of action, Scott paces the Rebels in field goal percentage with 150 more attempts at 49.4%. If the trend continues for Scott, she will become the second Rebel in Ole Miss women’s basketball history to lead the team in field goal percentage for four seasons in a row.
Scott currently ranks No. 19 in points scored at Ole Miss with 1,266 in her career after averaging 10.7 ppg on the season and 13.5 ppg in conference play. Dishing out a team-high 97 assists, Scott has already surpassed her career-best in a single-season.
Following its highest conference finish in over three decades, Ole Miss (22-7, 12-4 SEC) enters this week’s SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C. as the No. 3 seed.
For the third year in a row, Ole Miss earns the double-bye into the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals where they will await the winner of game six on Friday (March 8) at approximately 7:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network
