Ole Miss’ Matthew Murrell Named to All-SEC Second Team by League Coaches
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss star Matt Murrell was named a second-team all-SEC player by the league coaches earlier this afternoon.
Murrell leads the Rebels with an average of 16.1 points per game while also playing the most minutes of anyone on the team. Defensively, Matt averages 1.6 steals per game, the most of all players on the Ole Miss squad.
During his tenure in red and blue, Murrell has written his name in the Ole Miss history books by collecting 1,430 points (16th-most), while making 215 three-point shots, the fifth most in school history.
Since 2020 when he arrived at Ole Miss, Matt has increased his points per game, rebounds per game, three-point percentage, and field goal percentage by a drastic amount.
There is no doubt that his improvement will make him an extremely attractive NBA prospect. Here is what Coach Beard said about Murrell earlier this season.
“He has gotten himself in elite shape and condition. He’s a guy that can play the minutes and very rarely gets tired. Defensively? We ask a lot from Matt. He’s having a good season. I don’t think there’s a more motivated player in college basketball right now than Matt.”
