Ole Miss’ Ethan Lege Earns Rebel Walk Player of the Weekend Honors for His Series vs. Morehead State

Ole Miss’ Ethan Lege Earns Rebel Walk Player of the Weekend Honors for His Series vs. Morehead State

OXFORD, Miss. — Another weekend of Ole Miss baseball is in the books, and the Rebels are coming off their third straight series win and first sweep this season. Morehead State was outscored by Ole Miss 29-9 over the three game series which included a 13-1 run-rule victory in game two.

While many Rebels produced good performances on the diamond this past weekend, one especially stands out. Ethan Lege went 7-11 at the plate with two home runs and 8-RBI weekend which earns him his second Player of the Weekend honor this season.

Lege is currently slashing .415/.521/.736 and leads Ole Miss in hits with 22.

The Abbeville, Louisiana native didn’t wait long to start his weekend off with a bang. In game one, he hit a two-out two-run homer in the bottom of the first, giving the Rebs an early 2-0 lead. He added a single in both the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings. His single in the sixth added his third RBI of the night.

Like he did in game one, Lege would put the Rebs on the board first in game two with a bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Lege came up with a two-out RBI with a single up the middle, stretching the Ole Miss lead to 4-0.

As if one wasn’t enough, Lege’s third hit in the contest would be a two-out RBI single giving the Rebs a 9-0 advantage.

In Lege’s first two plate appearances in game three, he reached on an error and walked. In his third time to the plate he cranked a — you guessed it — two-out, two-run home run which expanded Ole Miss’ lead to 6-0.

Lege has been as consistent as any Rebel hitter this season. He and his teammates showed great improvement in two-out hitting situations which will be much needed as Ole Miss starts SEC play this coming weekend at home vs. South Carolina.
