Ole Miss’ Andrew Fischer Takes Rebel Walk Player of the Weekend Honors for Performance against Gamecocks
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss baseball team started off conference play with a bang by taking the series over South Carolina this past weekend. The Gamecocks entered the series ranked No. 20 nationally. The Rebels won games one and two by scores of 5-4 and 12-3, respectively. They were unable to complete the sweep, coming up short with a 6-2 loss in game three.
The Rebel Walk Player of the Weekend is third baseman Andrew Fischer. The Duke transfer was 4-12 on the weekend with three home runs and five RBI. His performance in game two helped the Rebels cruise to victory and clinch the series over South Carolina. In that pivotal game, Fischer went 3-5 at the plate and mashed three home runs.
In game one of the series Fischer did not register a base hit. However, he did draw two walks and scored a run in the 5-4 victory.
Game two is where the sophomore made his presence felt. In his first at-bat, Fischer grounded out to first base but was able to move Ethan Groff to third base. Groff would then come around to score on a Jackson Ross single. Ross’ single put Ole Miss up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
Fischer’s second at-bat of the day would result in his first home run of the game, putting the Rebs up 2-0.

Going into the bottom of the fifth, Ole Miss was down 3-2. Ethan Groff would tie the game with a solo home run of his own. Fisher followed that up with another solo shot which gave Ole Miss a 4-3 lead.
The game would stay locked at 4-3 until the bottom of the eighth where Ole Miss put up 8 runs to put the nail in the coffin and secured the series win. In that 8-run inning, Fischer drove in three runs with his third home run of the day.
