Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 1 South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ole Miss women’s basketball went on the road to face the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks and kept it close for a half before ultimately falling, 85-56.
Ole Miss (16-6, 6-3 SEC) was led in the game by Madison Scott with 17 points.
The Rebels and Gamecocks battled back and forth in the first quarter of action with three different ties. Ole Miss’ largest lead in the period was by three points at 8-5. South Carolina (21-0, 9-0) took the lead at 10-8 with just over two minutes remaining. Ole Miss finished out the first quarter trailing 17-15.
In the second quarter, the teams continued to trade baskets. The Gamecocks built a nine-point advantage of 30-21 before a 6-0 run by Ole Miss that cut the deficit to 30-27.
Ole Miss got within one point of South Carolina at 32-31 before the Gamecocks closed the quarter on a 8-0 run, going up 40-31 at halftime.
South Carolina got in foul trouble in the first two quarters as Kamilla Cardoso and Ashlyn Watkins each had to spend some time on the bench with two fouls apiece.
Ole Miss was led on the floor in the first 20-minutes by Marquesha Davis with eight points. Davis finished the game with 10 points.
South Carolina outscored the Rebels 20-13 points in the third quarter.

Ole Miss returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 8) and will be celebrating Girls and Women in Sports Day as they play host to Texas A&M inside the SJB Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.
