Ole Miss Player of the Weekend: Ethan Lege shines in Ole Miss’ four-game series with Hawaii.

OXFORD, Miss. — Opening weekend is in the books for Ole Miss baseball. This past weekend the Rebels split a four-game series in Honolulu with the University of Hawaii. With that, let’s took a look at my Player of the Weekend: Ethan Lege.

Lege finished the weekend 6-11 at the plate with three RBI and two doubles. The senior from Abbeville, La also reached base by way of a walk and a hit by pitch. He also added a sacrifice fly over the weekend.

Game One

In game one, Lege started in left field, batting fifth in the lineup. In his first at-bat of the season he dumped a ball between the right fielder and the foul line and motored his way to second for a second inning lead-off double.

Ethan Groff then drove Lege home with a home run to left field. In the top of the third with two outs and runners on first and second, Lege singled up the middle, scoring Judd Utermark. The two-out RBI extended the Rebels’ lead to 3-0.

In the top of the 13th inning, Lege drove in the eventual game-winning run. With runners on first and second, his single through the right side scored Jackson Ross, giving Ole Miss a 5-4 lead.

Game Two

In game two, this time starting at second base, Lege walked in his first plate appearance before eventually scoring on a Bo Gatlin home run. In the top of the fourth, Lege hit a double into center field on the first pitch of the at-bat. He then advanced to third on a ground out and later came around to score on another ground out, giving the visiting Rebels a 5-2 lead, the eventual final score. In the top of the sixth inning he added a single.

Game Four

In the series finale, Lege would be back in left field. He put the Rebels ahead 1-0 in the top of the first with a bases-loaded sac fly to center field. In the top of the fourth he led off with a single up the middle before advancing to second then third on a wild pitch. He then came around to score on a Bo Gatlin single.

Congratulations to Ethan Lege on a great weekend!

We’ll have more Ole Miss baseball coverage this week as the Rebels host Arkansas State on Wednesday night before then welcoming High Point University for a three-game series starting on Friday.
