Ole Miss Men’s Golf Finishes Puerto Rico Classic in Sixth Place at 30-Under Overall

OXFORD, Miss. — This past weekend the Ole Miss men’s golf team of Michael La Sasso, Tom Fischer, Collins Trolio, Cameron Tankersley, Patton Samuels, and Tim Tillmanns took a long flight to Puerto Rico to play in the Puerto Rico Classic Tournament, where the Rebels put up a great game, ending in 6th place.

After a three-month break from the fall, the Ole Miss men’s team, previously in 4th place, began its spring season in the beautiful Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue University.

Day one ended on an excellent note for three players as Sasso, Fischer, and Trolio all finished with a -2 total. Tankersley ended with an E, Samuels with a +1, and Tillmanns with a +2 with an overall 3-under.

Ole Miss made 12 birdies and two eagles during round one, sitting in 13th place with a first-round score of 285 (-3).

Getting into the groove of the course, the men’s team brought up their scores on day two of the tournament, climbing up the scoreboard and finishing in 9th place. Sasso and Tillmanns put up a fantastic performance, finishing with a total of -6 on day two.

Round two at the Puerto Rico Classic ended at 274 (-14) for the Ole Miss Rebels and 559 (-17) overall.

Finishing the tournament in paradise, Ole Miss went up the scoreboard, finishing in 6th place with a total of -30 to par and finishing with an 834 (-30) overall. Samuels performed amazingly on day three, finishing with a -7 total.

All six Rebels shot with an even or below par during the final round, with La Sasso earning his fourth straight top -15 this season and an exceptional performance from Samuels who shot a career-low round of 65 (-7).

La Sasso completed the tournament tied for 11th place with a 205 (-11). Samuels tied for 30th with a 210 (-6) and Fischer just a few places behind tied for 37th with a 211 (-5). Tillmanns tied for 44th place with a 212 (-4) and Tankersley with a 218 (+2) tied for 71st place out of 90 competitors.

After these six Rebels put up an exceptional play in this tournament, the Ole Miss Rebels look forward to the upcoming tournament, the Cabo Collegiate, the first weekend of March.
