TRANSCRIPT: Kennedy Todd-Williams and Snudda Collins talk about adjustments this season as Rebels prepare for two big games
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team is coming off a 10-point win Sunday on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs, moving the Rebels to 14-5 on the season. This Thursday, the team will return to the Pavilion to take on the 10-7 Florida Gators in hopes of winning their second in a row.
Earlier this afternoon, starters Snudda Collins and Kennedy Todd-Williams spoke to the media. Here is everything they said.
Snudda Collins
Question: Snudda, you’re four three-pointers away from being in the top five all-time at Ole Miss, what does that mean to you and your journey?
Collins: I mean, it means a lot to me. When I first came here, I didn’t have that many goals set for myself, but to see me breaking the records and making the All-Freshmen team my freshman year, it’s great.
Question: I’m curious if either of you’ve had to adjust this much. Have you ever had a season where you’ve had this much going on?
Collins: As far as me, no. In my four years here, this has probably been the most talented season, but that’s nothing too challenging for us to take on.
Question: What was the message after that loss to State?
Collins: To compete and defend. Defending is what we do, so of course this week we worked on tightening up our defense and keeping people in front of us.
Kennedy Todd-Williams
Question: Kennedy, what was your takeaway Sunday having to take over at point guard when Madi (Scott) got in foul trouble? It felt like you got in a rhythm in that position, just what were your thoughts?
Todd-Williams: We had been working on it all week, just me getting comfortable in that position, having my teammates feel comfortable with me in that position, and getting them shots. It took some pressure off of everyone else, I was able to get where I needed to go and hit open shots.
Question: What’s it been like as Coach Yo said, an identity crisis with KK going down and having to start over again in the middle of the season? What’s that like as a team?
Todd-Williams: It’s a journey. Especially because it’s a team full of new faces being put in different positions. It’s a lot throughout this whole season, but we’ve been finding a way and taking it day by day, game by game, really working in practice, and coming together as a team.
That’s what it’s about at the end of the day. It’s a long season, we know things are going to happen, but as long as we have each other, we’ll be straight.
Question: Is it hard to shift into the point guard mode?
Todd-Williams: No, I played it freshman year and in high school, so it’s not really any change for me, it’s just about how can I be effective playing that position, getting other people shots, and it opens the floor up honestly. It’s nothing new to me.
Question: It seems from the outside that KK goes down, you try starting Madi at the point and now Toddy you’re playing point, have you ever had a season where you’ve had this much going on?
Todd-Williams: Obviously, I’m new, so there’s a lot of different transitions and a lot of new things. It’s been an adjustment like any other season, so I’m taking that on pretty well but as far as the team, we just find a way. We take it game by game, and every practice one day at a time.”
Question: The bye week came at a good time with just how crazy last week was here, but how did that affect y’all, and what was your week like?
Todd-Williams: We were just in the gym, honestly. Every day just working on ourselves, not really worried about our opponent until closer to game time, but we really just focused on ourselves this whole week, and we got it in.
