Tre Harris looks forward to next season with Ole Miss teammates: ‘We want to win a championship’
OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss fans were happy to hear last week that Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris has decided to return for another season, rather than declare for the NFL draft.
Tre spoke with media earlier this week and talked about making that decision.
“It was challenging, for sure. It was in the back of my mind throughout the season, but as the season came to a close, it definitely got bigger and bigger in my mind, and, you know, for me, the biggest thing was being able to come back and still improve my skill set. I’m comfortable with my teammates, coaches, and quarterback, and on top of that, they have the 12-team playoff. We want to go there, and we want to win a championship.”

Tre finished the regular season with 851 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 18 yards per catch.
In week two against Tulane, Harris injured his knee after scoring the game-opening touchdown, which somewhat affected the trajectory of his season. He explained that he did not feel 100 percent again until the Vanderbilt game in late October.
Between injuries, losses, and the eagerness to get those back, Harris says that when he discussed returning with other players, everyone seemed to be in agreement that there is unfinished business at Ole Miss.
“Everybody was trying to figure out where everybody’s head was at. We all saw how the season went, and we felt like if we did it again we know we could go farther. We all pretty much came to one thing: ‘Hey, if we do it one more time, we know where we are going.’ Next year improves our chances with 12 teams, and we all pretty much came to the thought, ‘Let’s do it again.’”

One specific long-awaited announcement that has yet to take place is from quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has not made it official whether he is returning or not. Dart was Tre’s roommate this year, which allowed them to build a lifelong bond on and off the field between themselves and their families.
After living with and being around Jaxson for a great deal of the season, Tre was asked where Dart improved the most as a quarterback in 2023.
“As a leader. I feel like when I first came here, he was a little quiet as a leader and had to take a couple steps to show everyone that he’s the guy. That’s exactly what he did. I feel like one of those biggest steps was against Tulane, where he threw it to Trigg in the end zone. That game showed who Jaxson is as a quarterback, player, and as a leader.”

While the Rebs would love to get Dart back, it appears that regardless of his decision, they will still have one of the most talented wide receiving rooms in the country. In addition to Harris, the Rebels return wide receivers Jordan Watkins, Ayden Williams, and Caden Lee. They have signed the No. 1 JUCO wide receiver in the country, Deion Smith, as well as received a commit from the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal, Antwane “Juice” Wells.
Harris described how he feels about next year’s receiving corps, explaining there is a healthy blend between veterans and newcomers.
“We’re excited, getting ready to go into next year with a couple of new guys,” he said. “It’s good to have those younger guys who are still here. Seeing how the game moves, that’s huge because they know how everything works. They can fit in and pretty much replace us going into the next years.”
Before we are able to see the success of next year’s group, we’ll first watch the Rebs take on Penn State in the Peach Bowl. Ole Miss, with a victory, would reach the 11-win mark for the first time in school history.
After looking at the film, here’s what Harris has to offer on the Nittany Lions’ defense, arguably the best in the country.
“They tend to play a lot of man. Their front seven is definitely their strong point. I feel like their back end is not as strong as their front seven, but we’re going into the same game plan as every week, and that’s to dominate. Push the tempo, go dominate, and play our game. You know what Ole Miss does—we go out there and score a lot of points.”
