OXFORD, Miss. — Selection Sunday is finally here! Today is the day Ole Miss football and Rebel fans learn their bowl fate after finishing a strong 10-2 season, Lane Kiffin’s second in the last three years.
Ole Miss was ranked No. 11 in last week’s College Football Playoff rankings.
The Rebels played four ranked teams this season and finished 2-2 against them, defeating No. 22 Tulane and No. 13 LSU. Ole Miss’ lone two losses came on the road against No. 1 Georgia and No. 8 Alabama, the SEC Championship game participants Saturday.
Today, we learn whether Ole Miss will receive a New Year’s Six bowl bid, or if they’ll be edged out by Oklahoma, Missouri or Penn State, who are all also sitting at 10-2. (For a look at why the Rebels should get the NY6 bid over Missouri, read more here.)
Where will the Rebels go?
Most analysts predicted, going into the conference championship games on Saturday, that the Rebels will be headed to Orlando to play in the Citrus Bowl on January 1, likely against Iowa.
However, after Florida State’s less-than-exciting performance in the ACC title game against Louisville, some now think Ole Miss could sneak its way into a New Year’s Six game.
On Saturday night, Brett McMurphy predicted the Rebels will head to the Cotton Bowl and play Ohio State.
My complete bowl projections will be out late – late! – tonight, but here’s my @CFBPlayoff & NY6 picks:
1. Michigan vs. 4 Bama (Rose)
2. Washington vs. 3. Texas (Sugar)
Orange: FSU vs. Georgia
Cotton: Ohio State vs. Ole Miss
Fiesta: Oregon vs. Mizzou
Peach: Penn St vs. Liberty— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) December 3, 2023
