REPORTS: Transfer Portal Overall No. 1 player Walter Nolen narrows his choice down to two schools

OXFORD, Miss.Walter Nolen, the defensive lineman from A&M who is the No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal, has narrowed his decision to two teams, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. According to Fawcett, Nolen’s two finalists are Ole Miss and Oregon.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Nolen visited Ole Miss this past weekend and Oregon the weekend prior.  Although reports yesterday seemed to indicate Georgia might be in the mix, that does not appear to be the case — or at least not any longer.

Coming out of high school, Nolen was ranked a 5-star and the number one athlete in the country in the 2022 cycle according to On3.  He played at three high schools during his career before heading to College Station to play for the Aggies and Jimbo Fisher.

After two seasons with the Aggies in College Station and the recent firing of head coach Jimbo Fisher, Nolen decided to reevaluate his options.

He quickly became a force in Aggieland. As a true freshman in 2022, Nolen recorded 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and one sack across 10 games. In 2023 he saw action in 12 games where he tallied 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks.

Nolen will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Ole Miss currently has the No. 2-ranked transfer portal class according to 247Sports.

Check back with The Rebel Walk as Early Signing Day for 2024 begins Wednesday, December 20. The portal class and the incoming high school recruits should have Rebel fans excited!
