Ole Miss Signing Day Updates: Not just the Portal King, Lane Kiffin’s 21 verbal commits all sign Wednesday

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss has officially wrapped up Early Signing Day, receiving 21 national letters of intent from the 21 players who had verbally committed to the Rebels before the day started. Head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff retained 100 percent of their committed prospects.

Today was an exciting day. Lots of things going on between practicing for a major bowl and having Signing Day on the same day. I’m excited for so many players around the country that achieve their dream of making a college decision today. It’s always a special day for all of them and their families. We’re excited about the guys that are coming here. I want to credit our staff, really our whole building, for putting a lot of work into these high school, portal, and junior college players. To be able to put this many guys together takes a lot of work by a lot of people. I’m very grateful to all those that helped around here. Our staff put together, what I think, collection wise, would easily be our best class we’ve signed since we’ve been here.

Coach Kiffin credited the work of the Grove Collective and its director, Walker Jones, as well as Ole Miss fans who have contributed so much.

A lot of thanks goes to Walker Jones and the Grove Collective, and our fans. I think I said a while back in an interview we kind of feel like the Green Bay Packers of college football, where our fans and our state kind of own our team, and I think they’ve really shown up and done a great job in a number of ways, including support during the season and in the stands. This season was the highest attendance for a season in the history of the school. Lot of good things going on right now and we’re excited about that.

Ole Miss signed eight of the top 10 players from the state of Mississippi, according to On3’s rankings. The Rebels’ success — two 10-win seasons in the last three — in comparison to Mississippi State certainly plays a part in that.

Certainly helps the different directions of the two programs of the state. That always helps. When one program’s going one way and the other one’s going the other (direction).

It’s worth noting that any recruits who do not sign during the Early Signing period will have another opportunity to do so on February 7th, 2024, which is considered the next National Signing Day. Now that Ole Miss has signed its high school class, the majority of its recruiting efforts will be used in the transfer portal, especially with the No. 1 player in the portal, Walter Nolen, still uncommitted.

Nolen indicated last night that he has narrowed his decision to two schools: Ole Miss and Oregon. But due to his strong relationship with the Ole Miss coaching staff, I would predict that the former Aggie turns into a Reb at some point.

While Ole Miss hasn’t landed Nolen yet, they have been incredibly successful with 10 other transfer players so far in the portal, eight of whom are on the defensive side of the ball.

Transfer Commits

Chris Paul Jr. – Arkansas, LB

Tahveon “Taz” Nicholson – Illinois, DB

Louis Moore – Indiana, DB

Gerquan Scott – Southern Miss, OL

Keyshawn “Key” Lawrence – Oklahoma, S

Princely Umanmielen – Florida, EDGE

Tamarion McDonald – Tennessee, S

Tyler Baron – Tennessee, EDGE

Antwane “Juice’ Wells – South Carolina, WR

Peach Bowl Roster Updates

Moving into the most recent Peach Bowl updates, we have learned that backup quarterback Spencer Sanders has been deemed academically ineligible to participate. On the flip side, Clemson transfer and linebacker TJ Dudley will have an opportunity to showcase his abilities for the first time as a Rebel. Dudley is a former four-star out of the 2022 class and will be a great addition to the middle of the field for Pete Golding.
