BREAKING: Ole Miss adds former Vols DL Tyler Baron, nation’s No. 5-ranked EDGE in portal

OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss defense is becoming more formidable by the hour, it seems, as the Rebels have now added another essential piece in the trenches with the commit Saturday of former Tennessee EDGE Tyler Baron.

Baron announced he will be joining the Rebels after spending his last four years in Knoxville.

247Sports ranks Baron as the No. 5 transfer edge rusher. The Knoxville native originally picked Tennessee over Ohio State, Kentucky, and Oklahoma.

This past season, Baron recorded six sacks, a career-best 10.5 tackles for loss, 28 total tackles, and 41 pressures which ranked fifth overall in the SEC.

He was also recognized for the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl Midseason All-America Team, along with the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List. Baron will have one year of eligibility remaining and will be a part of one of the most versatile defensive lines in college football.

At the same time, the 6’5, 260-pounder will be called upon to mentor and lead Ole Miss’ 2024 high school defensive line class, which consists of several four-star prospects who are among Mississippi’s finest. This is an exceptional addition for Pete Golding, which will serve an immediate impact on next year’s Rebel team.
