Will it be a ‘Merry Flipmas?’ Five talented recruits Ole Miss football is pursuing

OXFORD, Miss. — With 22 commits thus far in the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Ole Miss football class is ranked No. 20 in the nation. Head coach Lane Kiffin and staff have been successful with many of their top targets, and as early signing day inches closer and closer, here are some important names to watch — players committed elsewhere or newly decommitted ones the Rebels would love to see ‘flip to the ‘Sip.’

Chance Robinson

Four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson, who is committed to Miami (FL), was in town this past weekend for the A&M game. On3 ranks Robinson as the No. 22 wide receiver in the country and reports he had this to say before leaving Oxford: “This visit changed my recruitment a lot. After visiting Ole Miss, it definitely opened my eyes.”

Chance also has a visit planned to Ohio State this upcoming weekend. It will take a lot of work to get Robinson away from his native state of Florida, but it had to be fun for him to watch current Rebel receiver Tre Harris go off on Texas A&M. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Caleb Odom

On3 ranks Alabama commit Caleb Odom as the 46th-ranked player in the country. He has been seen as a tight end because of his 6’4″ frame, but the Rebs view Odom as a receiver in their offense.

Odom and Ole Miss had traction throughout the winter and spring of last year, but hope seemed to have diminished after he committed to the Tide in July. But never say never as Odom has been in Oxford for the past two weekends — the most recent on an official visit. He has seen two wins in a row with a lot of productive offense.

Odom has shown the Rebels love by liking a number of Ole Miss football tweets as well as commenting on an Instagram photo from Jaxson Dart. The race for Caleb will go all the way down to signing day.

Braylon Burnside

Four-star wide receiver Braylon Burnside, a Starkville native, announced his de-commitment from Mississippi State via Twitter Monday morning after being committed to the Bulldogs since June.

The 6-foot-1 inch, 185-pound wide receiver is rated as the nation’s No. 13 athlete and the No. 7 player in the 2024 class in the state of Mississippi. He is being recruited by some schools as a safety and has offers from Texas A&M, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Louisville, South Carolina, Southern Miss, Tulane, Oregon and others.

Since the beginning of his recruitment, it appeared that the Bulldogs and the Rebels have had the best chance of landing this talented safety.  With his decommit from State, could there be a chance Braylon will follow in the footsteps of former Ole Miss star AJ Brown come signing day by leaving Starkville and playing for Ole Miss?

Kewan Lacy

It appears that three-star Kewan Lacy is the top running back target of the 2024 class for Ole Miss. After previously being committed to Nebraska, Lacy announced in late October he would be re-opening his recruitment.

Kewan is a versatile back both in the run and pass game. Ole Miss would love to have him follow in the footsteps of another incredibly talented 3-star back, Quinshon Judkins, and join this strong group of 2024 commits.

Lacy plans to be in Oxford when the Rebels play ULM and hopefully be persuaded to come to the ‘Sip.

Charleston Collins

Charleston Collins is a 6’5, 270-pound defensive lineman who is currently committed to Arkansas but has been predicted to flip to Ole Miss by On3. Through On3, he is ranked as the No. 84 player in the country and the No. 13 defensive lineman.

Adding Collins to a line that consists of Kam Franklin, Jeffrey Rush, Kameron Beavers, William Echoles, and Maurice Davis would almost guarantee the Rebs to have the best defensive line class in the country. The Arkansas native will be a tough flip, but things are headed in the right direction.

At the end of the day, I can say with confidence this well could be the best class that Lane Kiffin has assembled as a head coach here at Ole Miss. Stay tuned to The Rebel Walk for all the latest. Hotty Toddy!
