Quick Hits: Ole Miss Defeats Alabama State, 69-59, in first game of Chris Beard era
OXFORD, Miss. – Here is a quick glance at the Ole Miss men’s basketball 69-59 win over Alabama State in the season opener and the first game of the Chris Beard era in Oxford.
Ole Miss (1-0) was led in scoring by Matthew Murrell with 16 points. The Rebels had four players reach double figures: Allen Flanigan (15), Murrell (16) Jaylen Murray (15) and TJ Caldwell (15).
Flanigan also notched a double-double in the game with 12 boards.
Alabama State was led in the game by Antonio “TJ” Madlock and CJ Hines each with 12 points. The Hornets took their first lead at 25-23 on a three-pointer by Amarr Knox from a turnover.
At halftime, Ole Miss led Alabama State, 35-30. The Rebels went 3-for-15 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, after the under-12-minute timeout, the Rebels went on a 6-0 run as TJ Caldwell knocked down back-to-back three-pointers.
Ole Miss shot 30.8 from beyond the arc and 40.6 percent from the floor in the second half. Announced attendance for the game was 6,141 with a packed and raucous student section making its presence felt.
