Ole Miss senior Madison Scott earns MVP of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament: ‘When we are all together, there’s not a thing we can’t handle’
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — The Ole Miss women’s basketball team was crowned champion in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament after handing Michigan its first loss of the season. The Rebs won 60-49, which makes it the third time in six games that Ole Miss’ opponent has been held under 50 points.
Following the Rebels’ victory, senior Madison Scott was crowned the MVP of the tournament, scoring 41 points while coming down with 32 rebounds across three games.

When the 6-foot-2 Scott was asked if she thought she showed up for this tournament, there was no hesitation in her response.
“Yes, definitely, I can say that now. That makes me happy to say that.”

Similarly to most of this team’s wins, its defense was phenomenal. For the first time all season, Michigan shot under 30 percent from both the field and the three-point line. The Rebels notched more steals, blocks and had 12 more defensive rebounds than Michigan, preventing a number of second-chance opportunities for the Wolverines.
Madison spoke of the effort displayed by the Rebs.
“We showed strength, we showed resiliency…everybody gave everything they had. When we are all together, there’s not a thing we can’t handle. I truly believe that.”

Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin was proud of Scott’s MVP performance.
“Madi makes me proud. Madi believed in me, her and Snudda (Collins), before anybody else did as far as recruits were concerned. They came to us…and never wavered. Madi was the first McDonald’s All American in program history, men or women. We have a special bond… we are proud of her and I don’t think y’all have seen her best ball yet.“

From a personal standpoint, Scott scored 10 points, the second-most for the Rebs, and tied Kharyssa Richardson for the most rebounds with seven. Leading scorer Marija Avlijas scored 11 points and shot 50 percent from the field. Avilijas, the freshman from Serbia, saw 27 minutes on the floor today, the most of her young career at Ole Miss, after starting point guard KK Deans went down in the first half with an injury.
Before the team travels back to Oxford in preparation for Little Rock on Saturday, Scott says they will enjoy their dominating championship performance.
“We’re seeing our hard work pay off. We’ll celebrate today..enjoy the beautiful Bahamas, and then go back home and get to work.”
