Ole Miss’ Madison Scott Named Preseason First Team All-SEC, Team Chosen Fourth in SEC Coaches Poll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – (Release) Less than two weeks remain until Ole Miss women’s basketball begins its quest toward its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and the anticipation for the No. 12/16 Rebels continues to roll in with senior forward Madison Scott named Preseason First Team All-SEC and the team selected to finish fourth overall, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Following back-to-back fourth place finishes in conference, Ole Miss was chosen to place No. 4 overall in the 14-team SEC. Defending national champion No. 1 LSU was chosen to top the conference, followed by No. 6 South Carolina and No. 11 Tennessee with the Rebels rounding out the top four. Last week, Ole Miss received its highest preseason rankings in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 12 and No. 16 since the 1995 season.
Scott enters year four in Oxford prepared to add to her illustrious Rebel career, earning a multitude of honors her junior year including SEC All-Defensive team and SEC Second-Team accolades. After being named preseason Second Team All-SEC, this marks the first preseason First Team honor for Scott. Last week, the Indian Head, Maryland, native was also named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List as one of the nation’s top small forwards.
Ole Miss returns seven from last season’s Sweet 16 team in Scott, as well as Snudda Collins, Marquesha Davis, Elauna Eaton, Rita Igbokwe, Tyia Singleton, and Ayanna Thompson. The Rebels bring back 65.1% of their scoring, as well as 76.8% of all rebounds anchored by Scott.
The Rebels host Rust College in their lone exhibition matchup this Sunday, Oct. 29 from the SJB Pavilion at 3 p.m. CT. Admission is free for all fans against the Bearcats. Ole Miss opens up the regular season facing off against Queens in its annual Kids Day game on Nov. 6 at 11 a.m., streaming on SEC Network +. The Rebels welcome Oklahoma for an opening night celebration against the Sooners on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., in a national television game on SEC Network.
