Ole Miss Linebacker Suntarine Perkins Named Midseason True Freshman All-American

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss linebacker Suntarine Perkins was named to the On3 Midseason True Freshman All-American Team, and he has left no doubt as to why he is one of three linebackers to be recognized.

Perkins, a five-star, 2023 recruit from Raleigh, Mississippi, was ranked the 14th-best player in the country by On3, and 23rd by 247 Sports. Suntarine held offers from Georgia, Alabama, Texas, LSU, and obviously Ole Miss where he eventually decided to enroll.

Perkins was also an Under Armour All-American and played running back and linebacker for Raleigh High School where he won the state championship, rushing for 331 yards and four touchdowns, while totaling six tackles and an interception all in that title game.

Since he arrived at Ole Miss, Perkins has managed to exceed the already-high expectations placed on him. Through six games, he has 24 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks and one pass breakup. Perkins currently leads the Rebels in sacks.

His skills were perhaps best displayed against Alabama where he was used as a spy against the speedy Tide QB, Jalen Milroe, and tallied five tackles with two sacks. Perkins has impressive speed and he has done a phenomenal job of displaying it so far.

In the future, No. 4 on defense is one you’ll want to keep an eye out for as he has a chance to be one of the best defenders in the history of Ole Miss.
