OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss overcomes a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Arkansas, 27-20. Below is how it happened!

THIRD QUARTER ACTION

On 1st and 10, Jefferson’s pass complete to Armstrong for 20. Then, he rushes up the middle to for 9 to the OM 43.

Arkansas begins work on the Arky 28 after the 49-yard punt from Fraser Masin.

3Q 1:12 | After the review, ruling on the field of targeting on Arkansas is reversed. Ole Miss now has 4th and 10 and is forced to punt. The Rebels are now 0-8 on third down today.

3Q 1:23 | On 3rd and 10, Dart’s pass is incomplete to Dayton Wade up the middle — but a flag on the play. Arkansas is called for defensive targeting on Dayton and we’ll have a review.

Bentley picks up 6 yards on first down and 8 on second…but the Rebels called for holding. 10-yard penalty, so it’s 2nd and 10 now. On 2nd and 10, Dart’s pass goes for no yards to Bentley. 3rd and 10 coming.

On 3rd and goal from the 9, Jefferson keeps and gains just 2 yards. Not the play I would have called there, to be honest. But good job for the Rebels’ D. Hogs will attempt the 26-yard FG.

3Q 12:45 | On 3rd and 13, from Arky 43, Jefferson’s pass complete for 16 yards and a Hogs first down. Ball on the OM 41.

3Q 14:20 | On 3rd and 6, Jefferson’s pass is complete for 17 yards to the Ark 46.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, the Hogs get the ball first. They trail Ole Miss, 17-7.


Commentary on first half:  On offense, Jaxson Dart is 10-17 with just 98 yards passing in the first half. The Rebels have a total of 191 yards of offense. Ole Miss is really struggling on 3rd down, going 0-6 thus far against Arkansas. Ulysses Bentley IV has been a bright spot. He has 29 yards on 4 carries, a 7.3 yard per carry average.

NOW — for the Ole Miss defense! Pete Golding’s defense is playing very well. KJ Jefferson has been held in check on the ground, rushing for just 6 yards on 10 attempts. In fact, the Hogs have just 9 total yards rushing on 16 attempts! Passing, Jefferson is 12-19 for 113. He has one passing TD, but also has 1 INT (Ashanti Cistrunk) that led to an Ole Miss TD.

On first down, Dayton Wade with a 17-yard reception from Dart. Then, Ulysses Bentley picks up 11! Then, 16 and the Rebels have 1st and goal!

2Q 2:36 | Arkansas punt goes 33 yards to the 50 where the Rebs begin work.

2Q 3:40 | On 3rd and 3, Jefferson on a designed run and he’s stopped short by Daijahn Anthony! Arkansas will be forced to punt on 4th and 1. Jefferson has just 7 yards in this game. Rocket Sanders has 8.

On Hogs next possession, they have 2nd and 4 from their 14. Jefferson hands off and the Rebels’ defense bottles up Rocket Sanders.

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1 SEC) hosts Arkansas (2-3, 0-2)  this evening in Vaught-Hemingway in another key SEC game. The Hogs have lost three straight as they were defeated at home by BYU followed by conference losses to LSU and A&M.

Pregame notes: Defensive lineman JJ Pegues, who was injured during the LSU game and was a little hobbled during practice this week, is fully padded and warming up now. A great sign for the Rebels!
